The company has about $21B in assets, roughly half of it (around $11B) is Capmark Bank, which will not be the part of the filing according the article.
On the other hand, if you read the report posted 2 days ago (1st link) you will see Nonperfoming assets are at 11.6% (up from 9.6%/Q2Q2 and 3.5%/08Q4)
But, what really scares me, is the following:
NPA rates at offices: 22.6%
What kind of recovery is where almost 1 out of 4 office related loans are not paid?
Reading this report, it’s hard to believe CIT group can survive.
