As a CFO of a small company I can tell you we’re swamped with work and will not hire at all if we can anyway avoid it for 4 reasons:

a) State Costs and Risks: In the state of california, workman’s comp, state disability, unemployment insurance are too high, and it’s almost impossible to fire someone here without high risk of lawsuit.
b) State of Economy: With clients all over the US, I don’t hear or see things getting better. They’re still cutting back and feel their business hasn’t improved.
c) Quality of Employees: We’d have problems finding someone with the right combination of education, self dicipline, and capabilities.
d) Obama’s Sugar Fix: While the economy hasn’t improved, the Stimulus package in my mind is a sugar fix and I for one believe the hangover is going to be a beaut.
Therefore why would anyone want to hire? This economy isn’t going to get better, Obama’s stimulus isn’t going to work, health care is going to fail now that Kennedy is finally laid to rest, and in an effort to justify their existence, Obama and the Democrats are trying to kill off the banks, whom everyone is trying to blame the economic situation on. It’s obvious that the UAW is not to blame, all those folks who bought those houses are not to blame, and overspending by the State Governments aren’t to blame…which leaves the banks.
