LONDON, July 31 (Reuters) – Michael Phelps made history on Tuesday night as the Americans won gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay, giving him 19 career Olympic medals, the most of any athlete in history.
Earlier in the night, Michael Phelps won his 18th medal, taking silver in the 200m butterfly.
South Africa’s Chad le Clos upset Michael Phelps to win that event.
Phelps, who was bidding to became the first male swimmer to win the same individual event at three Olympics, led all the way but messed up his touch allowing le Clos to get his hands on the wall first in a time of one minute 52.96 seconds.
