Some Minneapolis streets look more like rivers after a water main break Thursday afternoon.
According to the city, private contractors working on a development project at Hennepin Avenue and 2nd Street North hit and ruptured a 36-inch water main that delivers water to a large portion of the city.
The city says the broken main has been capped.
This incident is causing major traffic delays in the evening rush hour. Police are on the scene for traffic control, and Mayor Rybak is urging drivers to avoid the area.
Metro Transit says its bus service in the area has been delayed.
Several streets including Hennepin Avenue from Washington Avenue to the river are currently closed. That includes the Hennepin Avenue Bridge.
