Breast cancer survivor Congresswoman has Washington elite in stitches with joke about her ‘fake boobs’

When some of Washington D.C.’s most respected journalists and politicians gather for a night of roasts and satirical skits, there is always the looming prospect of embarrassment or inappropriate jokes.

Instead, attendees were left in shocked stitches of laughter by Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz when she joked about her fake breasts during her speech at Saturday night’s dinner.

The Democratic National Committee Chairwoman, who had a long battle with breast cancer that she kept private until she was cancer-free, made light of the breast implants.

‘As some of you know, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and went through seven surgeries including a double mastectomy,’ Mrs Wasserman Schultz said.

‘By the way, my health battle wasn’t all bad. I got these,’ she said, looking down at her breasts.

‘I like to call them my “silver linings.”’

Continuing with the punch line, she was able to tie in an on-going point of contention: airport security searches.

‘Some people who know my story ask: “Debbie, are they fake?” I say, “Hell, yes, they’re fake. The real ones tried to kill me!” Although the fake ones feel very real- at least that’s what the TSA agents tell me,’ she said.
