China, South Korea, and Japan holding first ever emergency disaster meeting!

SEOUL, March 12 (Yonhap) — South Korea, China and Japan will hold their first joint disaster-relief exercise in Seoul this week, a Seoul diplomat said Tuesday, despite sovereignty and historical spats that keep generating tension in Northeast Asia.

Though the Thursday exercise is not a full-fledged drill, it will be the first time that officials from the three nations discuss their joint response to a simulated disaster in the region, said Ambassador Shin Bong-gil, head of the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat formed to handle cooperation projects among the neighbors.

Senior officials in charge of disaster-relief operations from the three nations will sit around a table facing video screens and discuss their joint responses to simulated disaster scenarios.…
