There is so many things wrong with your plan I don’t even know where to begin. Since when has a government program EVER met its intended projections in terms of efficiency, costs, or savings? NEVER. We already have over $50 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities but lets go ahead and promise more, after all this is America and it’s what politicians like you do. You expect to help fund this by “Cutting waste, fraud and abuse from medicare.” This is not health care “reform” this is a massive redistribution of wealth from one generation onto another. While I don’t think anyone should be denied from quality coverage from a preexisting medical condition, it is simply mathematically IMPOSSIBLE to put 30 million more into the system and magically drive down costs. The only way your plan will work is if you impose steep fines that would “require” the young, healthy generation to buy medical insurance. So really the people who are going to get screwed is my generation because we would “help” balance out the massive new influx of patients with preexisting conditions and all the illegals which I’m sure will slip through the cracks.
No one can argue that the health care system needs a massive overhaul. The real question I have to ask you is why the sudden rush to pass this monstrosity? What happened to the transparency? What happened to broadcasting the senate debate on CSPAN?? How can you expect to drive down costs when half the medical costs are of our own doing? By that I mean, people eating horrible diets, processed foods, not exercising on a regular basis, half the population overweight, people who smoke, people who abuse alcohol. So unless people take personal responsibility for their own lives, clean up their diets, personal “well being” how can we really expect the costs to be contained? Why not offer tort reform, interstate purchasing and taxing employee benefits?
I hope that all the young who voted for you like their hope and change. The argument that people are denied coverage is a half-truth. I have a good friend who works at Duke University who said if a person comes into the ER they can not refuse them. I have also talked with a few MD’s at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore who say the real reason why coverage has skyrocketed is because they have to conduct more test than needed for fear of getting sued for malpractice. In the end, if this plan passes the result is an over regulated, over bureaucratized government system and we all know how they tend to turn out…. This will only add hundreds of new provisions, regulations, mandates, committees and other arbitrary government “inventions.” Enjoy your remaining time in office, but don’t get too comfortable.
