Donald Trump Responds to Meryl Streep's Comments

While Golden Globes mark the award season and should be about acting, movies, and such, last night’s ceremony was focused on politics. Besides Jimmy Fallon who slammed the incoming President of the United States, the British actor Hugh Laurie also made a dig at Trump, as well as Meryl Streep.

One of the most famous actresses of all times was honored at the Golden Globes ceremony where she received a lifetime achievement award. She took the opportunity during her special moment to make comments about none other than President-elect Donald Trump.

The CNN reports: “In a nearly 6-minute address while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award, the actress denounced Trump’s campaign rhetoric and criticized him for mocking a disabled reporter.”

Streep said: “There was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good, there was nothing good about it, but it was effective and it did its job. It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he outranked in privilege, power, and the capacity to fight back.”

It’s a well-known fact that Donald Trump is outspoken, he says what he thinks, and he didn’t want to let this slide. He took to Twitter to respond to Streep’s comments calling her overrated and pointing out she doesn’t even know him, yet she took the liberty to say such things.

According to the New York Times, Trump wasn’t even surprised: “Mr. Trump, in a brief telephone interview, said he had not seen Ms. Streep’s remarks or other parts of the Globes ceremony, which were broadcast on NBC, but he added that he was “not surprised” that he had come under attack from “liberal movie people.”
