South Australian heatwave – temperature soars to 45C in Adelaide
Adelaide sweltered through its fourth-hottest day on record yesterday, while temperatures soared past 48C in some parts of the state.
The city hit 45C at 3.41pm. Its two hottest days were during a heatwave in January, 1939, when the mercury reached 46.1C and 45.9C two days earlier.
Although there is temporary relief today, the mercury is set to push past 40C again on Monday.
