From the small business front, over Thanksgiving we had the opportunity to sit down socially and speak with 5 other small business owners.

One was busy and “up” in sales - he only sells to the government, the rest of us had the WORST months in our collective histories (one business goes back to 1959 and November’s sales were the lowest ever since they moved into their current buildings in the 70s).
Every owner (except federal contractor boy) had forgone 3 or more months of pay. We have all cut staff to the quick - most down to just family, except us - we laid off my son and kept our machinist, all have taken on more personal liabilities to keep the banks off our butts and doors open. Most of us are down to 10-20% of staff as compared to two years ago.
Every one of us is thinking of canceling health coverage and letting the government screw our employees (and ourselves, without income it is real hard to buy insurance). Every one of us has experienced an increase in expenses and taxes related to government regulations. Every one of us is hurting thanks to the 2005 Bankruptcy reforms and the resultant increasing interest rates. Congress last session and this have just added even more.
Nobody in Washington, and especially on the street, cares.
They just don’t get it. We were the force that brought wealth to all in this country and we are done tapped out.
Between BLS and GDP it is blatantly obvious that the “recovery” is only for the non-working poor, government and elite - the rest of us are intentionally being swept under the rug.
I am thankful a few are still trying to look behind the curtain, but I fear it is too few, too late to save our country.
By the way, easy way to see truth in the BLS statistics, there should be one helluva increase in IRS collections in November & December. Cross our fingers and hope to god I guess.
