1. NUMBER OF TIMES UNDER REAGAN: 18 times or Once every 5 months: 1981, 1981, 1981, 1982, 1982, 1983, 1983, 1984, 1984, 1984, 1985, 1985, 1986, 1986, 1987, 1987, 1987, 1987

2. NUMBER OF TIMES RAISED UNDER BUSH: 7 times or Once every 13 months: 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2008.

3. UNDER OBAMA: 2 Times or Once every 15 months: 2009 and 2010.

4. NUMBER OF TIMES UNDER CLINTON: 4 Times or Once every 24 months: 1993, 1993, 1996 and 1997.

5. NUMBER OF TIMES PAUL RYAN’S BUDGET WILL RAISE THE DEBT CEILING: 8 times. (The average debt ceiling increase is 800-billio­n. Ryan’s budget increases the debt by $6-trillio­n)

6. NUMBER OF TIMES THE “PROGRESSI­VE” BUDGET WILL RAISE DEBT CEILING: 0 times. The Progressiv­e Budget actually balances the budget in 3 years, and creates surplus by 2021. It does this while saving Social Security and Medicare.

    Where is the moderator? Why allow such a shitty post?

    According to above it doesn’t matter if they rise the debt ceiling with 100 BILLION dollars or with 1 TRILLION dollars, but how many times it is done.

    What really matters is by how much they rise it every time.

    Debt to GDP matters a lot more than how many times is the ceiling raised

    Also how do you proof the statements in 5 and 6? Evil GOP good Democrats?

    Here is a question: Why didn’t the Democrats submit a budget for FY 2011?

    Now….Do you realise, that so called “PROGRESSI­VE” BUDGET DOES NOT EXIST?

    Yes Chris the Progressive Caucus does have a budget. But if you just watch Faux News you won’t hear about it. In fact, in hasn’t been talked about by any of the corporate owned media. And it does matter how manty times it’s been raised. Because this shows the hypocrisy of the GOP. Now all of a sudden their worried about the debt? No they are willing to sacrifice the world economy to get the black man out of the WHITE House.

    Nothing like a bunch of lies to make the Dems look good and GOP look bad. First of all, that Washington Post article never existed, just a fake link to give the hint of credibility.

    Secondly, and most obviously, it matters not how often you do a thing as the total amount *and* the ratio of that debt amount to over all GDP. If you borrow $10k and make only $40k, that’s a 25% ratio. If you made $100k that is a 10% ratio. If you spend $5/day on gas, you are spending less than the guy who spends $100/week on gas. Neither Regan or Bush raised the debt limit 4 trillion…

    Lastly, the mythical progressive budget doesn’t exist and never has. Congress, even with a majority, didn’t even submit a budget for 2 years. The Obama claim of 4 trillions over 12 years (like that 12-year thing will fool anybody into thinking the govt will actually stick to a promise that far out)…. even that Obama claim has ZERO SPECIFICS attached to it. Obama goes on TV and shouts about this 4 trillion number but it’s all fake, when asked for specifics during the bi-partisan talks, Obama has none.

    At the end of FY 2000 the net cost to run America’s government was 19.5 billion Our debt ceiling was 5,950 billion, our GDP was 9.255 or 33,900 per capitation. America was the number 1 sovereign country in the world and number 1 in military spending living in relative peace, and the greatest financial stability we had ever known, and for the first time a balanced budget and a 236.9 billion $$ surplus.

    2001′s gov operating costs of 19.5 billion rose to over 1 trillion in 2008 bush raised the debt ceiling 7 times in 8 FY budget years. In 2000 America’s debt limit was 5,950 billion. By FY 2008 the debt ceiling had been raised to 11.3 trillion. While bush was crafting the 2009 budget America’s over 10 trillion $$ debt forced another rise in the debt limit. But of course this was put in Obama’s lap even though he wouldn’t even see it for more than 3 months. Between 2000 and 2007 the dollar value fell 16% to number 7.On page 53 you’ll scroll forever through the countries bush borrowed from and what we sort of owe them at that point. BEFORE INTEREST AND FEES.

    Guess how many times Barack Obama did not vote for the debt ceiling to be increased as a US Senator? THREE TIMES he voted no or “present” instead of yes to increase the debt ceiling, yet now he wants it raised. Charming flip flop.

    The link is not a fake, the person just tried to post a pdf from the article rather than letting ppl go to the article itself….calm down Sir Thomas from Menlo Park, it really doesn;t sound like you know what you are saying…the ceiling will rise no matter what, the whole conversation is a political move, not economical, and that is the only reason why the GOP is making a deal out of it, but Democrats are still not organized enough to actually make any logistical move and lack much unity

    Seniors have paid into SS for DECADES, it is DUE them, ans they have been ROBBED!

    It is a fact that when republicans are in control the deficit goes up and when Dems are, there are balanced budgets and surpluses.

    Where are the investment in jobs??

    Why haven’t the republicans passed a single jobs bill since they took control, while they have tabled 12 bills that the Democrats have brought forth???

    The better the economy, the more jobs there are, the less the deficit….DUH!

    This is republican MANUFACTURED CRISIS TO AVOID DEALING WITH JOBS AND THE ECONOMY..NEVER HAS THE RAISING OF THE DEBT CEILING BEEN HELD HOSTAGE TO ANYONES DEMANDS.

    Between the ignorant teabaggers and Boehner’s ineptitude they are unable to deal with jobs or the economy, they are unable to govern.

    They have more scheduled holidays than any congress in history and have passed the least legislation than any congress in history.

    Why is is that when Democrats change their mind/vote on an issue, it’s a flip-flop, but when Republicans do it, it’s because they’ve researched and made an informed decision? I love the hypocrisy on BOTH sides. BOTH political parties are inept, and anyone who says otherwise has their head in the sand. If you think Democrats or Republicans care about the average citizen, you’re very sadly mistaken.
