The constant blame on insurance companies for the problems is the wrong argument. If providers weren’t writing off uncompensated care that is mandated by the numerous government programs then their charge rates would be reflective of the cost of doing business. Of course that would included some dreaded profit for the business owner.

I am a CEO in a business with a 160 employees, used to be 200 employees 18 months ago. We are in our 11th year and have a wonderful reputation in healthcare of elderly, those that want to stay in their home until end of life. Majority of employees work 10-30 hours per week, their choosing. Our profit margins are very small, with a labor intensive business. This bill has the potential to kill my business since proposed versions require coverage if someone works around 28 hours per week, employer covering 60% of employee and dependents. We couldn’t cover this. After so many years of battling the state laws trying to micromanage my business and now this I question why do I even do this? I could find work and probably make the same as I do now with no headaches. But I employ a lot of people that can’t easily go find other jobs.

I don’t want to pay for the existing Medicaid abuse. Clean that up for first so we pay for the true cost of care. Let me stay in business and grow my business since it a much needed industry.

Speaking of elderly care there is something in this bill that is another entitlement program for care at home. I believe that good care in the home is cheaper than the nursing home placement that is currently paid by Medicaid. But I am very worried that pieces of previous proposed legislation have made it in to this bill. What that could mean is that states are given preference for these funds if they use public service unions as the providers. There is also a large amount of funding for the next 5 years to the grow the “public service union” workforce. Currently the SEIU is the public service union for homecare workers. These programs have an abundance of fraud because their is no oversite. There is no supervision and elder abuse is common. But yet those union dues are collected for political purposes.
