Health care in this country is a contradiction in terms. Medical care? Ok, but not health care.

This country spends 13% of the national GDP on medical care, yet we have some of the highest rates for diabetes, and infant mortality, and lower life expectantcies than most modern nations.

I’ll repeat that for the short attention span folks; America pays the most and gets the least medical care.

What we are getting for the Trillions we spend is more medical care, not better medical care.

My wife had a heart attack, confirmed by analysis of blood enzymes. Went to the cardiologist, who ran a bunch of tests. No arteriosclerosis, yet she is prescribed blood thinners and statins. After suffering some horrible side-effects she quits both the drugs and the doctors. But not before about $20,000 in medical bills, treatments for a condition she didn’t have.

My brother-in-law’s son had a seizure last week, his first one. My BiL was trained as a doctor, so he knows a bit about medicine, yet he declined to take his son to the doctor for fear of his son being labeled. Once the medical profession labels you as epileptic, they treat you for epilepsy; once they have a hammer, they’re seeing nails.

And, still, a certain political party is in the thrall of the lobbyists of the AMA, the drug companies, and the medical care companies, and that political party will bankrupt us by blocking reforms and allowing the costs of medical care to spiral out of control.
