I am helping a family attempt to obtain a loan modification.

The husband’s job was terminated and he now works on an hourly basis if work is available. His health insurance was terminated. They tried for five monbths to no avail. I have been working probono for the last six weeks. Bank of America has a twisted phone system and no one knows what is going on until you reach a third level of personnel. It is acceptable to them to keep callers on hold for 20 minutes. If your negotiator is not available (which is always the case) you get to an automated system which is useless. To get to a live person, you must hit O nine times when asked for the loan number. Then you are told to call back in another few weeks. All the while, default and foreclosure are getting closer.

These are good, honest, hardworking people who have fallen on hard times. They are trying to do the right thing by the lender. There was never an extravagant lifestyle.

It would be a good use of taxpayer money to hire more loan servicers instead of paying million dollar bonuses to a handful of executives.
