In August 2008, the 7 companies listed above sold 1,074,415 vehicles. In August 2009, these 7 companies sold 1,074,156 vehicles……..a DECLINE OF 259 VEHICLES.
Given the fact that the government helped……forgive me…..the taxpayers helped fund approximately 500,000 vehicles with an additional $2 Billion in Cash for Clunkers, this is ABSOLUTELY DISMAL. And watch out next month as sales volumes fall of a cliff.
By the way, the above companies account for the vast majority of sales and are the major benefactors of the cash for clunkers program. But, I also gathered info on four other companies that have reported so far (as of yesterday around 5:00):
Mercedes, Volkswagen, Porsche and BMW
Collectively these companies sold 69,426 vehicles in August 2009 v. 75,555 vehicles in August 2008…..6,129 fewer vehicles or an 8.1% decrease in sales. Thus, if we include these for August 2009 (with the other 7 companies), it only makes things look worse.
