Is President Trump Linked to Russia?
By Gabrielle Seunagal
On Monday, March 20, 2017, James Comey announced the FBI’s official investigation into whether or not President Trump or his associates colluded with Russia to influence the results of the 2016 Presidential election. During the public hearing at the House Intelligence Committee, Comey asserted that the President’s claims of being wiretapped by his predecessor lacked evidence. Political historian, Matthew Dallek noted the seriousness of the FBI’s investigation, stating that the President’s chief advisers, and even the President himself, could be liable to having charges pressed against them.
The most interesting element of the FBI’s investigation is the fact that it centers around the President’s supposed ties to Russia. The Democrats and mainstream media have pushed this maddening dogma for quite some time, despite lacking concrete evidence to substantiate their claims. Former national security advisor, Mike Flynn received payment from countries that were tied to Russia in 2015 and since his resignation, the Left grasped onto the notion that President Trump’s alleged ties to Russia are what won him the election.
If Hillary Clinton had won the Presidency, the FBI would not be investigating her ties to Russia, despite her campaign manager John Podesta, who owns 75,000 shares in an energy company linked to Putin. President Trump has no businesses or companies with affiliations to Russia. Since the FBI decided to investigate Trump, they should investigate Clinton and Podesta as well. What’s to say that the Democrats did not use their links to Russia as leverage to sway the 2016 election?
