A mother in Northern California woke up Monday morning to discover that she rolled over her newborn baby, apparently strangling him to death in what police are calling a terrible accident.
Deputy Royjindar Singh, of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, said emergency crews arrived on the scene in the 400 block of Church Street in Waterford shortly after 9am and began CPR on the baby, who was not breathing.
The little boy was transported to Oak Valley Hospital in Oakdale, where he was pronounced dead, the Modesto Bee reported.
The mother, whose name was not released by authorities, did not know how long she had been on top of the baby, or at what point he stopped breathing, Singh said.
Officials said there were no signs of violence or trauma to the baby, and no indication of any suspicious activity at the victim’s home.
