SAN FRANCISCO (Dow Jones)–Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) Friday said it may have to make
“some adjustments” to its hiring plans due to the tough economic environment, but
stressed that it hadn’t initiated a hiring freeze.
In a statement, the Redmond, Wash.-based software giant said it would “continue
to grow and add thousands of jobs this year.”
“Given the current economic environment we are taking the prudent step of
reviewing our hiring plans and will make some adjustments as appropriate,” the
company said. It added that it would “continue to grow and add thousands of new
jobs this year,” and remained “optimistic” about its growth prospects.
The statement follows an Internet report that Microsoft’s Entertainment & Devices
unit, which makes the Xbox games console and Zune digital music player, plans to
freeze hiring. Spokespeople for that unit weren’t immediately able to verify this
report.
