Try to sell and leave Arizona and go to live near relatives on land that will support a large garden and possibly fruit trees with a well and septic tank for when power is out and battery, solar, or generator backup can supply power long enough for water and to run the refrig enough to keep fresh food cold. Wood stove or fireplace and very large propane tank or reliable source of natural gas for heat.
Learn more about other nations that have retirement communities, low cost health care and stable government. I currently read free stuff from “International Living” about taxes, costs, government, etc on several countries that are popular with people leaving the U.S.
Move assets into agriculture commodities when possible as global populations are rising while global food stockpiles are in decline.
Due to poor health (mine and my wife both) we are not doing as much as fast as I would like but, the plans are in place and being slowly worked on.
The sad thing is that too many people are assuming we will always have power and gasoline and that may be in such short supply that even what is available will cost more than our devalued dollars can buy. Those with enough money won’t be in enough number to keep many businesses going and that will create problems for even those who think their wealth will insulate them from the hardships we will face.
How long would that condition last? I have no idea and that is why even moving out of the country may have to be considered if you want to live a normal life with power, gasoline, health care, low crime, etc. Hopefully it will never get that bad but, it could if our dollar collapses and all the things we import are too costly for what we will have as income. I am not sure you can totally prepare due to all the unknowns and thus several contingency plans should be developed including having some money in another nation that you can go to a live in. That is one option I am also looking at but, due to a lack of knowledge about banking in other nations, laws, tax implications, I need to learn a lot more. Also, due to the health problems I mentioned, traveling to visit other countries to get first hand information is not possible for me but, I would recommend it for those who can.
Here are a couple of sites that some are looking for to get information on other countries. This first is just more an “ad” than full information on Panama which uses the dollar and that concerns me, if the dollar gets in trouble.

This site should be of more help for the serious researcher.

I know I am not prepared as well as I need to be.
