- Clerk spotted customer trying to swap valuable gem for another stone
A suspected jewellery store thief accused of swallowing a $20,000 diamond is being held by police – who are now waiting for the stone to pass through his body.
The alleged thief is accused of swallowing the stone at Precision Jewellers in Windsor, Ontario, after realising store staff had clocked his scheme to swap one stone for another.
Detectives say the 52-year-old man is now being kept in a special cell without a toilet, while a forensic team wait for him to pass the valuable diamond.
He has been charged with a theft over $5,000 after allegedly stealing the diamond on May 10, according to CBCNews.
A store clerk at Precision Jewellers, who did not wish to be named, told how the alleged thief tried to switch the diamond with another stone through a sleight of hand.
