Road Base exercises in Finland: F/A-18s landing on and taking off road strips established on national roads for war time activities
The war time strategy for the Finnish air force is to disperse planes across Finland and use national road network for operations. That’s why many of our roads have long and extra wide straight sections. This is also the reason why we opted for F/A-18s with reinforced landing gear and a tailhook.
