Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman to CNN: “Please Stop Spreading Lies and False News”

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused the Western media of “media vandalism,” during a press conference in Moscow, Thursday.

Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson (Russian): “I think what is happening now in the Western, particularly the American media, is just a manifestation of some kind of vandalism, media vandalism. To be honest, I have only one question – have the Western media hit the bottom, or is there still an opportunity to dive deeper?”

Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson (Russian): “I will reveal to you ‘a military secret’. Diplomats do their work, and their work is to network in a host country. It is written everywhere. If they do not network or participate in negotiations, then they are not diplomats.”

Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson (Russian): “What the US media, and not only that of the US, allow themselves to write is just an attempt, first of all, to totally disinform the [American] citizens and the international community. But of course, the emphasis is on the American public opinion.”

Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson (Russian): “It is [George] Orwell, 1982 [SIC]. Now we understand what he meant by Big Brother. The mass media have become the Big Brother, in America for example. [The mass media] have stepped beyond professional ethics and competence by accusing and blaming [others] simply by fabricating false information.”
