CHICAGO (CBS) – Starting this week, Chicago police are changing their responses to 911 calls. They’ll no longer come right away to reports of things like criminal damage to property, vehicle thefts, garage burglaries, or other crimes in which the suspect is no longer on the scene, and the victim isn’t in immediate danger.
The move will free up the equivalent of 44 police officers a day for patrol duties.

HOPATCONG, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Charges have been filed against a New Jersey man who allegedly made repeated 911 calls, then called police headquarters and said he was the president and wanted to speak with New York Jets QB Tim Tebow.
Hopatcong police said the 28-year-old man, charged with creating false public alarms, made three 911 calls on June 10, but refused each time to give dispatchers any information on why he was calling.
