Citigroup’s trio of Apple analysts have a very negative note for investors this morning.
They say demand for Apple’s two main product categories — the iPhone and the iPad — has “softened.”
They cut their estimates for iPhone unit sales this quarter. For the current March quarter, they are estimating 34 million units sold, down from the previous estimate of 35 million units. For the June quarter they are calling for 25 million units sold, which is well [...]
NEW YORK (AP) – For New York City, it wasn’t an unusual sight: a possibly mentally ill woman pacing and mumbling to herself on an elevated subway station platform.
The woman eventually took a seat on a bench Thursday night, witnesses later said. Then, without any warning or provocation, she sprang up and used both hands to shove a man into the path of an oncoming train.

“It’s a very tragic case, [...]
From Market Watch:
Tim Cook:
“Regarding iPhone 5, Tim Cook says demand is “extremely robust” and the company is in a “significant state of backlog right now.” But he adds that output has improved, calling this the “largest volume ramp in Apple’s history.” He says he is feeling “very confident in our ability to supply quite a few iPhones.” No specific timeline on bringing supply in line with demand.”

From Visual Capitalist:
When you think about it, maps are definitely infographics. They use visualizations, colour, differently sized and aligned fonts, symbols, icons, and codes to represent and communicate data – or more precisely, location data.
And again, like all forms of data, the advent of computers has had an incredible affect on how we can analyze, transfer, and display it. Maps functions now account for a huge chunk of tablet and [...]
In the days of the Soviet Union a tourist in Moscow could pay for his or her entire trip by selling a suitcase full of smuggled Levi’s jeans. Now, one could make substantially more sneaking a handbag full of the latest Apple products into Russia.
In this image conscious city, where Bentleys are so common that many owners simply curb park them, plenty of people are willing to plunk down some [...]

Apple stores have long been regarded as modern bastions of technology staffed with sharp young problem-solvers eager to help a customer in need, but according to a shocking new exposé, all is not as it seems.
A tell-all article has blown the lid off the dirty secrets of one Apple store at the NorthPark Shopping Center in Dallas, Texas.
Among the revelations was a manager trading heavily discounted Apple products to a plastic surgeon [...]
‘All future Apple products’ will sport new connector port from September, according to leaked Apple reports
iPod Nano, iPod Touch, iPad Mini and future iPads all set for updates
Changeover renders hundreds of accessories obsolete without adapters
There was a public outcry when it was revealed that the next iPhone would get a new docking port connector.
The newer, slimline port means that thousands of current Apple accessories will need a potentially clunky adapter to [...]
Apple fans may only have to wait another six weeks to get a peek at the company’s next big products.
iMore has heard from its sources that Apple will announce the next iPhone and the new iPad Mini at an event on September 12.
We’re generally skeptical about such exact dates when it comes to Apple products, but iMore has a good track record when it comes to Apple rumors.
Earlier this year, iMore correctly reported that Apple would announce the [...]
While both sides of the same-sex marriage debate have recently turned eating fried chicken sandwiches into a political act, some recent numbers suggest you can also tell your political affiliation by the technology brands you use.
Since the presidential election kicked off in 2011, the president’s official campaign arm, Obama for America, has spent $353,000 on Apple products according to official spending reports filed with the Federal Election Commission. That’s enough to buy 1,780 new iPhones or [...]
An American teenager was banned from buying an iPad at an Apple store in Georgia because the sales assistant heard her speaking the Iranian language Farsi.
Sahar Sabet, 19, had been chatting to her uncle in the dialect before trying to purchase an iPad at the store in Alpharetta, near Atlanta.
But the Apple employee, who was also Iranian, refused to sell it to her, citing the ‘bad relations’ between Iran and [...]
The idea of the Pro version has me very interested. If the said device is capable of running standard windows based application like said ie Office, Photoshop like they are on my PC / Laptop. Depending on the actual specs of the device this could make this device open to a very wide array of uses, that could compete with Android and the iPads iOS on another level in my [...]

Censored: Apple has filtered the word ‘jailbreak’ from it’s iTunes store
Apple has banned the word ‘jailbreak’ from it’s U.S. iTunes store listings, the latest indication of its disapproval of hackers who muck around with their tightly secured products.
‘Jailbreaking’ refers to the practice [...]
A tattoo artist from Newfield, New Jersey, has taken his love for Apple products to a new level when he implanted four magnets into his arm to hold his iPod Nano in place without a strap.
Dave Hurban documented the process on video, naming the project ‘iDermal.’
The footage, set to the song ‘Boy’s Chore’ by the band ‘Youth Here,’ shows the 21-year-old man, whose arms and neck are covered in colorful [...]
After taking heat for shipping jobs to China and contracting to employers with questionable labor conditions, Apple (rather publicly) took credit for creating more than half a million jobs in the U.S.
514,000 to be exact.
That figure included nearly 50,000 employees in its retail network and its corporate headquarters, where products are designed.
But it also included FedEx and UPS employees who deliver its products and employees at Corning who make glass [...]
With the iPhone and the iPad, Apple has established dominance in the world of both smartphones and tablet computers.
But that may not be enough for the world’s biggest company, as it is reportedly set to launch a mid-sized ‘iPad Mini’ which would combine elements of both its blockbuster devices.
The new gadget could be ready as soon as autumn in a bid to compete with tech rivals Samsung and Microsoft.
iPad: The [...]

Half of all U.S. households own at least one Apple product, according toCNBC’s All-America Economic survey.
That’s more than 55 million homes with at least one iPhone, iPad, iPod or Mac computer. And one-in-10 homes that aren’t currently in that group plan to join it in the next year.
But Apple [AAPL 617.62 3.14 (+0.51%) ]doesn’t have to worry about brand saturation any time soon. Americans don’t stop with just one device. Homes that own least one Apple, [...]

Tomorrow at 10 a.m. local time, a group of ticked off Apple customers will show up at Apple’s headquarters and stores in D.C., New York, San Francisco, London, Sydney, and Bangalore.
They will be delivering petitions signed by 250,000 people asking the company to develop a worker protection strategy in response to reported abuse in Chinese supplier factories.

As Apple, Inc. enters its first full year without founder Steve Jobs at the helm, expect one thing not to change: Apple will not be creating large numbers of jobs in the U.S. In fact Apple, which until 2004 did a lot of manufacturing in the U.S., employs just 43,000 people in the U.S. It employs 20,000 people in China. However, the vast majority of the 700,000 contract workers who toil in factories [...]
Apple’s contribution to U.S. employment will be through its stores, its empowerment of entrepreneurs, and jobs at cellular providers and shippers, but not the actual building of its products.
From NYT:

But as Steven P. Jobs of Apple spoke,President Obama interrupted with an inquiry of his own: what would it take to make iPhones in the [...]
From The Reformed Broker:
Dear Jamie Dimon,
I hope this note finds you well.
I am writing to profess my utter disbelief at how little you seem to understand the current mood of the nation. In a story at Bloomberg today, you and a handful of fellow banker and billionaire “job creators” were quoted as believing that the horrific sentiment directed toward you from virtually all corners of America had something to do [...]

Having previously attested to the product’s safety, the Food and Drug Administration is now considering guidelines to limit the amount of harmful arsenic in apple juice.
The FDA currently does not regulate arsenic levels in fruit juices. But recent published reports showing just how much inorganic (harmful) arsenic is in apple- and grape-juice products seemed to cause an about-face by the agency.
Consumer Reports tested nearly 90 samples of apple [...]

I don’t usually write stories about individual companies, but this hit me like a ton of bricks in the last 24 hours so I thought it was worth touching on briefly. Now, I wouldn’t call myself an uber tech nerd, but I am fairly tech savvy. I’m also generally a first adopter meaning that when some new technology hits the shelves I feel compelled to be one of [...]
I enjoy using the iPod and the only thing stopping me using the iPhone, iMac and iPad are the affordability, especially on being made redundant and having to spend on doing further study and I needed to upgrade my laptop and software to do this, but couldn’t afford the cost of the MacBook. I’m sure that’s how it is for many, but they are good [...]
A new poll in France says 7 out of 10 people think Microsoft did more to change the world than Apple. We think we would have similar results in other countries, if only because a lot more people (still!) use Microsoft products than Apple products, at least for personal computing which is (still!) the most important part of computing.
It’s hard to see a mention of Steve Jobs without the worlds [...]
OSX is getting better, but has a way to go, security researchers say
While still not great, the operating systems behind Apple desktops, laptops and phones are getting more secure, researchers at Black Hat say.
While not recommended for corporate use unless it’s in islands within larger networks, the OSX operating system has made strides, says Alex Stamos, who lead a team of researchers from iSec Partners [...]

Apple may have opened only four stores in two cities in China so far, but unbeknownst to the company, they are already expanding elsewhere in country.
A blogger in Kunming posted photos on Wednesday of a local store which, from a distance, looked just like one of the consumer electronics giants’ iconic full-service retail stores. It featred a [...]

When physicians at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center started adopting smartphones a few years ago, they almost immediately looked for ways to use them in their clinical lives.
Doctors liked being able to access their patients’ records and clinical tools anytime, from any place, so they pressured the hospital to give them access.
With an estimated 81% of physicians using smartphones (up from 72% in 2010), according to a survey of 2,041 physicians [...]
Provided by the Business Insider:
An anonymous Apple store employee pulled back the curtain behind the company’s impressive retail operation. He talked to Popular Mechanics about what it’s like to be an Apple footsoldier on a day to day basis.
Here’s what we learned:
On product launch day, all Apple store employees watch the Keynote together. They don’t know anything ahead of time, of course.
Customers can be shockingly rude.
Drug dealers and Chinese resellers [...]
Haha I don’t think even the most ardent anti-Apple blogs have made these kinds of dire predictions. First generation Apple products have always had their bugs and quirks and it never slowed them down before.
However I still think from an investor perspective the consumer hype over the iPhone is overtaking the reality of its market share and growth potential. Android has had a greater international growth of its market share [...]
