Soldier: Kevin Shumaker died on August 31, 2011, about eight months after he was bitten by a rabid dog

The feds are pushing for increased awareness in the wake of a soldier’s death last year after he was attacked by a rabid dog while on active duty.

Spc Kevin Shumaker was bitten on the hand by a stray while breaking up a dog fight at a remote Afghanistan base in January 2011.

Obama Cuts Hazard Pay for Soldiers Serving in Harm’s Way

They will now only get the $7.50 daily proration for the individual days they are actually serving in harm’s way instead of for the whole month. (DOD)
