Damascus residents and state-run TV say a huge explosion has shaken the city.
The blast followed by heavy gunfire caused panic in the capital, where a massive car bombing on Thursday near the ruling Baath party headquarters killed at least 53 people.
It was not immediately clear what the target of Monday’s explosion was and whether there were casualties.

WikiLeaks has releaseddamning emails embarrassing Syria and exposing “Syria’s opponents”, says Julian Assange. There were more than 2.4 million emails that show correspondence between “Syrian political figures, ministries and associated companies” between August 2006 and March 2012.
The Associated Press reports, “WikiLeaks’ Sarah Harrison told journalists at London’s Frontline Club that the emails reveal interactions between the Syrian government and Western companies, although she declined to go into much further detail. [...]
The highest ranking member of Saddam Hussein’s ousted regime, is still at large, according to a video posted on the internet.
The film shows a man, introduced as Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, lashing out against Iraq’s Shiite-led government.
It was posted on a website linked to Saddam’s now-outlawed Baath party on Saturday but it was not possible to verify the authenticity of the video.

At least 20 killed in Daraa, according to witness, as anti-government protesters defy security crackdown.
Syrian security forces have opened fire on anti-government protesters near the city of Daraa, killing at least 20 people, residents have told Al Jazeera.
