Paul fires back: Sens. McCain, Graham think the ‘whole world is a battlefield’

thehill.com

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) blasted fellow GOP Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Thursday, saying the two “think the whole world is a battlefield.”

Paul criticized the hawkish senators for thinking the laws of war should take precedence over the Bill of Rights. The two had criticized Paul’s statements about drone policy during the Kentucky Republican’s nearly 13-hour filibuster on Thursday.

“They think the whole world is a battlefield, [...]

USA: MEDAL FOR DRONE WARS HIGHER THAN BRONZE

WASHINGTON (AP) — They fight the war from computer consoles and video screens.

But the troops that launch the drone strikes and direct the cyberattacks that can kill or disable an enemy may never set foot in the combat zone. Now their battlefield contributions may be recognized.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta announced Wednesday that for the first time the Pentagon is creating a medal that can be awarded to troops who have [...]

This is a very, very dangerous thing that the president has done…

From Washington’s Blog:

Bush and Obama have set us back 800 years.

NBC News reports:

Legal experts expressed grave reservations Tuesday about an Obama administration memo concluding that the United States can order the killing of American citizens believed to be affiliated with al-Qaida – with one saying the White House was acting as “judge, jury, and executioner.”

“Anyone should be concerned when the president and his lawyers make up their own interpretation of [...]

Ian Bremmer: Like Georgia, Japan has plenty to fear from a powerful neighbour

From FT:

US-Japanese relations are vitally important for both sides. But though Washington can and will come to Japan’s defense if China tried to take the Senkaku islands, it cannot defend Japanese companies that are sure to take a beating in Chinese markets. That’s the true battlefield. Read more

U.S. General: Obama Paralyzed by Fear ‘disarmed Forces’

Now I understand! For years, many veterans and active military have been alarmed about the idiocy of the changes in battlefield aeromedical evacuation known as Dust Off. For reasons having nothing to do with patient care, Dust Off has been removed from the control of the professionals, the medics, and put under the control of amateurs, aviation staff officers, or ASOs. This is the first such change since the Civil [...]

PROF: Drones Will Soon Be Able To Kill During War Without Human Assistance

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Drones could soon operate without the help of humans.

Agence France-Presse is reporting that the Pentagon wants its drones to be more autonomous, so that they can run with little to no assistance from people.

“Before they were blind, deaf and dumb,” Mark Maybury, chief scientist for the U.S. Air Force, told AFP. “Now we’re beginning to make them to see, hear and sense.”

Ronald Arkin, a professor at the Georgia Institute [...]

The brain injection that could help save lives of soldiers in battle and other victims of serious head injury

Victims of serious brain trauma could be saved by an injection of nanoparticles in the moments after injury, researchers have found.

Obama embraces new restrictions on guns

Faced with a clamor in his party for stricter gun control in the wake of the Colorado movie-theater massacre, President Obama said Wednesday night he would “leave no stone unturned” in seeking new measures to reduce violence nationwide, including more restrictive background checks on gun purchases.

“A lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals,” Mr. Obama said at [...]

Obama urges tighter background checks on gun buyers after Aurora massacre

In his broadest remarks on gun control yet in the aftermath of the mass shooting at a Colorado movie theater, President Barack Obama called late Wednesday for tougher background checks designed to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill.

“A lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals — that they belong on the [...]

SHOCK: The Pentagon wants awards for bravery for drone pilots who kill people remotely far from the field of battle

The effort to depict drone warfare as some sort of courageous and noble act is intensifying:

The Pentagon is considering awarding a Distinguished Warfare Medal to drone pilots who work on military bases often far removed from the battlefield. . . .

[Army Institute of Heraldry chief Charles] Mugno said most combat decorations require “boots on the ground” in a combat zone, but he noted that “emerging technologies” such as drones and [...]

Army Looks to Strike Foes with Lightning Weapon

Live Science
June 25, 2012

Today’s military lasers can blind spy satellites or burn enemy vehicles, but tomorrow’s could guide lightning bolts to strike and destroy battlefield targets.

A U.S. Army lab is testing how lasers can create an energized plasma channel in the air — an invisible pathway for electricity to follow. The laser-guided lightning weapon could precisely hit targets such as enemy tanks or unexploded roadside bombs, because such targets represent better conductors [...]

BLAME GAME: Republicans rooting for failure in economy, Obama campaign says

They are and they are traitors for it. If Americans elect Romney then they deserve to have their children die on the battlefield for the Owl Demon Moloch of Bohemian Grove.

WASHINGTON — Republicans are hoping the economy continues to struggle so they can win the White House in November and should put those political concerns aside and take steps to boost job creation, top Obama campaign officials said Sunday.

“They need [...]

US struggles to prevent release of Hezbollah commander in Iraq

When alleged terrorist Ali Musa Daqduq was transferred from U.S. to Iraqi custody last December, many in Washington worried that the Iraqi government would release him back to the battlefield. This week, Daqduq was acquitted in an Iraqi court and now the administration is trying to figure out how to keep him behind bars.

Daqduq, who U.S. military officials claim is a Hezbollah commander, had been imprisoned by U.S. forces in Iraq for leading a team that [...]

U.S. troops to have ‘super vision’: Pentagon orders electric contact lenses that let them ‘see’ through drones flying overhead

Lenses can let troops see through ‘eyes’ of drones flying above
Can ‘layer’ target information over view of world
Contact lenses don’t impede fighter’s vision
Equivalent to a 240-inch 3D television from 10 feet

Google wowed the world this week with its Project Glass computer glasses – but the U.S. Army is investing in a technology one step ahead.

The Pentagon has placed an order with Innovega for lenses which focus 3D battlefield information from drones [...]

Attorney General Holder Says Murder Is Legal

by WashingtonsBlog

By leading anti-war activist David Swanson, author of Day Break and War Is A Lie, who runs the websitesDavidSwanson.org and WarIsACrime.org (formerly AfterDowningStreet.org)

Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday explained why it’s legal to murder people — not to execute prisoners convicted of capital crimes, not to shoot someone in self-defense, not to fight on a battlefield in a war that is somehow legalized, but to target and kill an individual sitting on his sofa, with no [...]

Oakland Mayor Says Occupy Using City As ‘Playground’

OAKLAND (KCBS)— Oakland Mayor Jean Quan said she has had it with a small, violent fringe element within the Occupy Oakland protests and claimed it is using the city as a “playground.”

Quan spoke Monday in an interview following another chaotic round of street protests in which police units from surrounding areas were on hand to support the cash-strapped city’s police department.

“They’re taking away resources from my city and creating a situation where [...]

Gov’t HORROR: “The entire U.S. is now a war zone”

From Activist Post:

This is one of the most tragic events I have written about since establishing End the Lie over eight months ago: the horrendous bill that would turn all of America into a battlefield and subject American citizens to indefinite military detention without charge or trial has passed the Senate.

To make matters even worse, only seven of our so-called representatives voted against the bill, proving once and for all [...]

At war with ourselves: Americans face arrest as war criminals under Army state law

The United States Senate is set to vote this week on a bill that would categorize the entire USA as a “battlefield,” allowing law enforcement duties to be dished out by the American Military, who in turn could detain any US citizen as a war criminal — even coming into their own homes to issue arrests.

The National Defense Authorization Act regularly comes before Congress for changes and additions, but the [...]

A bill that would define the USA as a battlefield and Citizens as the enemy and would authorize indefinite detention of anyone anywhere WITHOUT trial

Here is what I know, we have the enemy belligerents act of 2010 which allows the president to declare anyone anywhere an ememy belligerent without evidence, which means you are not protected by the constitution because you are not a citizen. And now we have a bill coming to the floor that would define the USA as a battlefield and Citizens as the enemy and would authorize indefinite military detention [...]
