(NaturalNews) If you buy or sell secondhand goods and live in the state of Louisiana, you can no longer use legal tender to complete such transactions. Ackel & Associates LLC (A&A), a professional law firm, explains that House Bill 195 of the 2011 Regular Session (Act 389), which was recently passed by the state legislature and signed into law by Gov. Bobby Jindal, prohibits anyone who “buys, sells, trades or [...]
Out of control nightmare: tremors increasing at massive 13-acre Louisiana sinkhole
Posted on April 2, 2013by The Extinction Protocol
April 2, 2013 – LOUISIANA – The head of Louisiana’s Department of Natural Resources named 13 scientists and other experts Friday to serve on a blue-ribbon commission tasked with determining the long-term stability of the area around northern Assumption Parish’s sinkhole. The 13-acre sinkhole and consequences of its emergence and continued growth, such [...]
(CNN) — A few weeks ago, Time Magazine ran its now-famous cover: “The Republican Savior: How Marco Rubio became the new voice of the GOP.” Only time will tell if the junior senator from Florida lives up to that billing, and it’s entirely possible that Time will be proven wrong in the coming months and years. But there’s one cover that the magazine could run now and be entirely confident [...]
Washington may be a tax reform wasteland, but out in the states the action is hot and heavy. Nine states—including such fast-growing places as Florida, Tennessee and Texas—currently have no income tax, and the race is on to see which will be the tenth, and perhaps the 11th and 12th.
Oklahoma and Kansas have lowered their income-tax rates in the last two years with an aim toward eliminating the tax altogether. [...]
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman, and Kansas Governor Sam Brownback have all called for their states to eliminate their income tax and replace it with a sales tax over the past week. They were joined yesterday morning by North Carolina, where the Senate President Pro Tempore, Phil Berger, confirmed the legislature and the Governor, Pat McCrory, would pursue serious tax reform this session. Indeed, a senate proposal [...]

Hopes for overhauling the federal tax system are fading in Washington, but in some state capitals, tax reform experiments – some far-reaching – are fast taking shape.
Across the U.S. South and Midwest, Republicans have consolidated control of state legislatures and governorships, giving them the power to test long-debated tax ideas.
Louisiana Republican Governor Bobby Jindal, for instance, called on Thursday for ending the state’s income tax and corporate taxes, [...]
On his Friday radio show, conservative talker and Fox News host Sean Hannity warned that the United States may fall apart if tax rates remain high.
“The states are now fighting and battling against their own federal government,” Hannity said. ”Same thing with individuals. If you live in a state like New York, New Jersey, California [or] one of these high-tax states [where] 60-plus cents of every dollar goes to taxes, you’ll say, ‘What the hell [...]
Many states are wisely signaling that they aren’t interested in doing the Obama administration’s bidding on Obamacare. As a result, many if not most of Obamacare’s insurance exchanges — the heart of the beast — will have to be set up and run by the Obama administration at the federal level.
States are not required to set up Obamacare exchanges, but it seems to have surprised observers that many are choosing [...]
New details of Mitt Romney’s postmortem explanation for why he lost the election are emerging with the release of audio recordings from a conference call with his donors, in which he said President Obama won by giving away ‘free stuff’ to women and minorities.
‘It’s a proven political strategy, which is give a bunch of money to a group and, guess what, they’ll vote for you,’ he said, according to audio [...]

Tech President’s Micah Sifry, who introduced the idea that Wikipedia revisions could help predict Mitt Romney’s selection of a running mate, reports that Wikipedia has put a lock on the pages of the leading veep candidates following a segment on the topic by Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert.
The pages of Tim Pawlenty, Rob Portman, Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal, Chris Christie and (following yesterday’s Drudge bump) David Petraeus have been locked after Colbert, citing [...]

Could it actually be possible that Mitt Romney is considering selecting Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as his running mate? Most Americans have never even heard of her, but there are now indications that she has made the short list of VP contenders. Over the weekend she traveled up to New Hampshire to campaign for Romney, and Republican activists all over the country are buzzing about the fact that her name [...]

Mitt Romney’s campaign attacked President Obama and the Supreme Court ruling in Obamacare this morning, arguing that the ruling expands congressional power by allowing the federal government to levy taxes in order to compel behavior.
“Under this taxing authority now, you can tax inactivity to compel behavior, you can tax inactivity, what’s to stop this administration — we know the First Lady is very keen on us eating healthy — why [...]
The Supreme Court upheld President Barack Obama’s health care law on Thursday, but Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, a possible Republican vice presidential contender who has refused to establish a federally mandated health care exchange in his state, said Friday that he will continue to ignore it.
“We’re not going to start implementing Obamacare,” Jindal said during a conference call with Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell. “We’re committed to working to [...]
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is rising as Mitt Romney’s possible pick for vice president, according to campaign sources.
Last month, Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist touted Jindal for the vice presidential slot in an opinion piece for Politico.
Norquist tells me he wrote the piece knowing that “Jindal is a leading option.”
Jindal is rarely mentioned in speculation about Romney’s possible choice. A rising star in the Republican Party, he suffered [...]

Louisiana is embarking on the nation’s boldest experiment in privatizing public education, with the state preparing to shift tens of millions in tax dollars out of the public schools to pay private industry, businesses owners and church pastors to educate children.
Starting this fall, thousands of poor and middle-class kids will get vouchers covering the full cost of tuition at more than 120 private schools across Louisiana, including small, Bible-based church [...]
Neil Carpenter took a pay cut when he accepted a job as a Louisiana state accountant more than 12 years ago, but he figured he would make up for the loss with a retirement check that would guarantee long-term financial security for him and his family.
Now the 41-year-old finds his life plan teetering as Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal seeks to restructure the pension system for rank-and-file workers, potentially requiring higher [...]

Reporting from St. Louis—
Mitt Romney drew a warm reception from the National Rifle Assn. on Friday as he attacked President Obama for “employing every imaginable ruse and ploy” to restrict gun rights, which Romney pledged not to do if elected in November.
Although gun control groups have complained that Obama has done little to support their cause, Romney took a page from the NRA leadership, which has been saying [...]
Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal is moving ahead with education reform–but it isn’t without controversy.
Later this week, on Wednesday and Thursday, education committees in both houses of the state legislature will be considering the governor’s proposed package. The reforms include moving toward a voucher program, eliminating teacher tenure programs, and changes in teachers’ pay.
And so, in response to these reforms even being considered, “at least three school districts are canceling classes [...]

The nation’s largest private prison company is offering cash-strapped state governments to buy up their penitentiaries and manage convicted criminals at a cost-savings. But there’s a catch…the states must guarantee that are there are enough prisoners to ensure that the venture is profitable to the company.

Following the fatal shooting of a toddler in a crime ridden New Orleans housing project, a Louisiana state representative has called for what amounts to martial law.
Austin Badon contacted Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal’s office Monday and asked that the National Guard be deployed. Jindal’s office said Badon was told that any such a request would have to come from the New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu.
Under Article I, Section 8, [...]
NEW ORLEANS – A comedian impersonating President Obama made racially tinged jokes Saturday at the Republican Leadership Conference before being pulled off the stage by an event organizer.
The Obama impersonator, Reggie Brown, said that while the First Lady celebrated all of Black History Month, the bi-racial president only celebrated half the month.
Brown also said: “My mother loved a black man, and she was not a [...]
An estimated 4,000 residents in several low-lying Louisiana towns have been forced to evacuate at 5 p.m. on Sunday after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers authorized the opening of floodgates on the Morganza Spillway, according to Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. The aim of opening the floodgates is to prevent further devastation downriver in the highly-populated cities of Baton Rouge and New Orleans, but towns [...]
LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. – In an agonizing trade-off, Army engineers said they will open a key spillway along the bulging Mississippi River as early as Saturday and inundate thousands of homes and farms in parts of Louisiana’s Cajun country to avert a potentially bigger disaster in Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
About 25,000 people and 11,000 structures could be in harm’s way when the gates on [...]
NEW ORLEANS — A surge of water not seen since the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 is forecast in coming days to test the enormous levees lining the Mississippi River on its course through the Deep South, adding another element of danger to a region already raked by deadly tornadoes and thunderstorms.
Mississippi’s and Louisiana’s governors issued flood warnings Thursday and declared states of emergency. Authorities along the swollen waterway in [...]
Gulf Coast Governors Leaving National Guard Idle
Thousands of Troops Called Up to Fight Oil Spill Haven’t Been Deployed
All along the Gulf coast, local officials have been demanding more help from the federal government to fight the spill, yet the Gulf states have deployed just a fraction of the National Guard troops the Pentagon has made available, CBS News Chief Investigative Correspondent Armen Keteyian reports.
That’s a particular problem for the state [...]
