It is something that has infuriated British holidaymakers for years.

However early they get up, they arrive at the pool to find all the sun loungers ‘reserved’ with a German towel.

But now that ruthless efficiency when it comes to bagging the best spot may be stopped after a cruise company waged war on passengers who hog sun loungers.

Carnival Cruises, which had $2.2 billion in profit in 2011, pays most employees $1.20 an hour and $400 a month, well below recommended standards.

Carnival Cruise staff on UK ships are paid $1.20 an hour or $400 a month in basic wages, according to new documents seen by the Guardian newspaper. These workers lose their tips, which work out to roughly 15 percent of wages, unless they get at least a 92 percent favorable rating from customers.
