A large reason for the failure of CISPA to make it to a floor vote on the Senate was the threat of a veto by President Obama if the bill reached his desk. While the President should be keeping the issue of national security at the forefront of his mind, it’s refreshing to think that in his second term Barack Obama is still focusing on the rights of the people. Congress sure is hard at work at the moment trying to pass one horrific bill after the other. With the disastrous CISPA, aka the “Patriot Act for the Internet,” rightfully getting most of the attention since it represents such a treasonous attack on civil liberties (it passed the House of Representatives last week and now moves on to the Senate), another awful bill is also moving forward that we must [...]

From Ron Paul:
This week, as Americans were horrified by the attacks in Boston, both houses of Congress considered legislation undermining our liberty in the name of “safety.”
Gun control continued to be the focus of the Senate, where an amendment expanding federal “background checks” to gun show sales and other private transfers dominated the debate. While the background check amendment failed to pass, proponents of gun control have made it clear [...]

Our forefathers gave us the constitutional right to bear arms in order to allow the citizenry to protect itself from a corrupt, oppressive, tyrannical government.
But that was back in the day when there was a level playing field as far as arms went. You basically had swords, guns, and cannons…
The government had no better weapons technology available to it than the citizens..
That ceased to be the case when the south [...]

Congress is debating a new cybersecurity bill that has garnered the support of the White House. Does that mean it will ease the fears from Capitol Hill while still respecting concerns of privacy though? Aaron Swartz of Demand Progress joins RT’s Liz Wahl to talk about the latest efforts regarding the newest cybersecurity legislation being considered.
The CISPA-esque Cybersecurity legislation that would end all privacy in The Internet in the Senate might have dropped off the radar, but is still very alive. Before Congress’ most recent break, two bills were battling for support on the Senate Floor. The first, sponsored by Joe Lieberman, is called The Cybersecurity Act of 2012 (s.2105). The second, sponsored by John McCain, is called the SECURE IT Act (s.2151). Support for [...]

Mike Rogers (R-Michigan), the U.S. Representative responsible for introducing the Cyber Intelligence Security Protection Act to Congress, said that President Obama will sign the bill if it passes the Senate, despite an earlier White House promise to veto.
“[I]f we can get a bill on information-sharing to the president’s desk, he’ll sign it. I do believe that,” Rogers said Monday after a panel discussion. CISPA passed the House of [...]
Our friends in D.C. are telling us that the Senate vote on S.2105, the Obama-backed bill that contains the CISPA language, is going to happen as soon as they get back from Memorial Day recess. CISPA, in case you’ve forgotten, is the bill that would nullify all existing privacy laws and give corporations legal immunity for sharing your communications with the government. It would effectively end privacy on the internet.

This legislation is not in the interest of the American people. We did not ask for it, nor will it help any sort of majority in any way. The ramifications of this proposed law will move us as a nation, one step closer to totalitarianism. Please stop protecting corporations and business interests over those of the people who put you into office.

Last week, CISPA (Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, H.R. 3523) passed the House. Now, the process moves on to the Senate, where the primary equivalent bill is the Cybersecurity Bill of 2012 or S. 2105. These security bills intend to modernize laws that govern the sharing of “cyber threat information” between private companies and the government, which is a reasonable goal. Cybersecurity is a serious issue, but we do not need to sacrifice [...]

CISPA may have cleared the U.S. House of Representatives, but the fight isn’t over…
From Eric Peters:
It took a debate that stretched to nearly seven hours, and votes on over a dozen amendments, but the U.S. House of Representatives finally approved the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act on April 26.
Passions flared on both sides before the final vote on CISPA, which cleared the House by a comfortable margin of 248 [...]
While all the focus was on SOPA and PIPA, the so-called Internet piracy bills in Congress, there’s a new piece of technology-related legislation that may prove to be just as controversial. The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, or CISPA, passed the U.S. House of Representatives late Thursday, and now heads to the Senate.
If enacted, it would increase the information that is shared between the government and technology companies, giving each protection [...]

CISPA: the latest attack on freedom in America
A few months ago many were worrying about PIPA and SOPA, two US bills drafted ostensibly to protect intellectual property rights, but blocked thanks to widespread protests including the blackout of many internet sites – most notably wikipedia. Meantime, we have also seen the European Union attempting to ratify the international ‘anti-piracy’ ACTA treaty, this time ignoring not only public opinion, but the [...]
