Maryland Democratic Governor Martin O’Malley has instituted a tax on citizens for the amount of rain that falls on their property.
The tax, officially known as a “storm water management fee,” will be enforced in nine of the state’s counties. The state legislature passed it in 2012 purportedly to “raise revenue to cleanup [sic] the Chesapeake Bay,” according toMarylandReporter.com.

At a special legislative hearing Friday, state Sen. Barbara Buono and fellow Democrats claimed cronyism drove up recovery costs, while Republican lawmakers defended both Christie’s [...]

That means, the public “inauguration” is [...]

The cleanup in Amityville, Long Island, is still underway three weeks after Superstorm Sandy devastated parts of the region. So when residents got a warning that they now have to get rid of all of the debris themselves, they were none too happy.

Mayor Bloomberg has snubbed Borough President Markowitz’s impassioned plea to bring the National Guard to Hurricane Sandy-scarred Brooklyn — arguing that approving the Beep’s request would be a waste of federal manpower and turn the borough into a police state.
“We don’t need it,” Mayor Bloomberg said on Wednesday during a press update on the city’s ongoing Hurricane Sandy cleanup. “The NYPD is the only people we want on the street [...]

The bank run must be larger than they are letting on.
Spanish markets got clubbed today, as PM Mariano Rajoy was announcing a new nationalization scheme for Bankia.
But that was mostly expected.
What freaked out investors was a new report in El Mundo that suggested a new, much-more expensive fire needed to be put out.
In its latest Euro Areas: Sovereign Debt Crisis Update note, Citi summarizes the report:

Perhaps not so shockingly, AP is reporting tonight that satellite images of Iranian military facilities show trucks and other earth moving vehicles. Diplomats, accredited to the IAEA, suggest thisindicates attempted cleanup of radioactive traces possibly left by tests of a nuclear-weapon trigger. As sanctions grow more burdensome and Israel’s pre-emptive rhetoric rises, the discovery of this sanitization effort only raises the stakes as the images are said to be very [...]

There will be a lot of ecological damage to the environment. The cleanup will take a long time, and nature will take more than many lifetimes to absorb and revert back most of the damage that the cleanup could not fix.
