Jeffrey Sachs: The hidden convergence of America’s rival budgets

from FT:

The publication last week of the budgets of Republicans in the House of Representatives and Senate Democrats demarcates the political debate in Washington. Though all the press coverage is about the differences between the two proposals, there is also remarkable convergence. Some of that convergence is good news. Other aspects of the convergence threaten the future of the US as a dynamic society.  Read more

PAPER: Mayan ‘death and rebirth’ date marks perfect time to tackle planet’s crisis

‘Progress’ has brought ecological disaster and the wipeout of species. As the winter solstice arrives, we may not be facing apocalypse but a fresh start in our attitude to the world order

At 12 minutes past noon last Wednesday, 12.12.12, 12 minutes of wintry stillness was broken by the low chime of a gong. The crowd gathered around the Chalice Well beneath Glastonbury Tor linked hands, looked skywards, then touched the [...]

The Coming Celestial Convergence

Here is my paper on what may be coming. Even the governments of the world are extremely worried about this possible event.

Protesting Spanish Cops: “Forgive Us For Not Arresting Those Truly Responsible For This Crisis: Bankers & Politicians”

Yesterday, in what is an appetizer to the great 2013 convergence trade (that, between the now thoroughly dead Greek and the Spanish economy, which is rapidly getting there, of course), several thousand Spanish policemen took the streets of Madrid protesting the latest round of austerity, which included frozen pensions and the elimination of the Christmas bonus (they will have many more opportunities to protest not only the loss of any future upside, but the [...]

RT @OpenEurope: Catalan government’s pollster CEO says 74.1% of Catalans are in favour of a referendum on independence

74.1% of Catalans are in favor of holding a referendum on whether Catalonia has to become a new state in Europe, as is clear from the last poll Opinion Research Center (CEO) of the Generalitat.

The survey also shows that caresses the Convergence and Union majority in Catalonia and the PSC sinks like fourth political force, with a direct intention of passing vote of 10.4% in 2011 to 3.1%, although the [...]

Report: UN classifies climate change agenda

Joel Gerhke
Washington Examiner
June 23, 2012

United Nations officials refuse to allow observers to read the draft agenda for the Rio+20 conference on climate change, after an earlier draft called for the economic “contraction” of major countries.

“It seems the UN has taken the final pre-conference draft and classified it!” Lord Monckton, a climate skeptic with the Center for a Constructive Tomorrow reported in an email. “We were promised transparency. This is unacceptable.”

LAKSHMAN ACHUTHAN: Developed Economies Are Going To Experience Frequent Recessions In The ‘Yo-Yo’ Years

by Sam Ro

The Economic Cycle Research Institute (ECRI) and its founder Lakshman Achuthan have been taking a lot of heat for maintaining an aggressive recession call for the U.S. economy.

But that’s not to say that ECRI isn’t producing some interesting research and analysis.

Last Friday, Achuthan gave a presentation titled The Yo-Yo Years at Bloomberg’s Sovereign Debt Conference in Frankfurt, Germany.

From ECRI:

The convergence of two cyclical patterns virtually dictates an era of more frequent recessions in developed economies. [...]

The three developments that could set off a real bull market

From Forbes:

… [T]ime and again, history has shown us that the market tide can sustainably turn when there is a convergence of key “macro” catalysts that restore investor and consumer confidence. Recognizing these specific catalysts and knowing the types of equities to look for ahead of time are of critical importance right now for investors with dry financial powder.

The convergence of three key confidence-building catalysts that investors should be actively [...]

DELTA Reroutes Flights as Solar Storm Hits

Delta Air Lines Inc. said Tuesday that it was rerouting some transpolar flights between Asia and the U.S. to avoid the impact of the largest solar storm in almost a decade.

The Atlanta-based carrier said some flights to Detroit from Hong Kong, Shanghai and Seoul took a more southerly routing on overnight flights, though a spokesman said planes flew faster to keep schedules intact. Tuesday departures from the U.S. were expected to [...]

The Interests of the Global Elites Are Diverging

We are entering a period of profound political disunity as the interests of various Elites that were recently convergent are now diverging.

I have no “proof” of this conjecture, but there is increasingly abundant evidence that the interests of various global Elites are diverging. Like many other observers, I have tended to lump Power Elites into one class of convergent if not identical interests. But reality is looking more complicated [...]

Robert Zoellick: Global markets face a new ‘danger zone’

World Bank chief Robert Zoellick has said that investors have lost confidence in the economic leadership of several key countries, warning global markets were in a “new danger zone” as a result.

Mr Zoellick said that the United States had contributed to the drop in confidence in the markets following the bitter debate in Congress to ensure that the country did not end up with [...]
