A credible threat to the U.S. banking system has been identified by cyber security firm RSA and suggests that plans for a highly organized, large scale online bank heist targeting retail customers in the United States is currently underway.

A 21-year-old British man has been sentenced to a year in jail for hacking into the private Facebook account of an individual in the U.S.
Scotland Yard said yesterday that Gareth Crosskey, of West Sussex, had hacked into a U.S. citizen’s Facebook account on 12 January 2011. As a result he had gained access to the individual’s private e-mail account.

Interpol president Khoo Boon Hui said on Tuesday that organised international gangs are behind most internet scams and that cyber crime’s estimated cost is more than that of cocaine, heroin and marijuana trafficking put together.
