From a blood-covered zipper pull to a dented blue-and-silver battery, the Boston Marathon bombing site has yielded important forensic evidence that authorities will use to profile and track suspects.
New photos of the crime scene where white-suited FBI specialists are gathering evidence are testament to the power of the two bombs, which twisted a metal pressure cooker apart and sprayed debris on rooftops.
The force of Monday’s blast killed three people and [...]

First I thought they are debris but debris can’t fly out into space…
U.S. intelligence agencies are closely monitoring China’s missile facilities in anticipation of a test of China’s missile defense interceptor, which also doubled in the past as an anti-satellite (ASAT) missile.
The officials commented in response to reports that China is set to conduct another potentially destabilizing anti-satellite missile test in space. In 2007, China fired a missile that destroyed a weather satellite and resulted in tens of thousands of dangerous pieces [...]

South Korean defense officials say they have evidence showing a recent North Korean missile launch was to test an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

North Korea’s recent rocket launch shows it has the ability to fire a rocket more than 10,000km (6,200 miles), South Korean officials say.
The estimate, which would potentially put the Western US in range, was based on an analysis of rocket debris.
However, there was no confirmation that the North had the re-entry technology needed to deliver a missile.
Experts believe North Korea is also years away from gaining the [...]

The cleanup in Amityville, Long Island, is still underway three weeks after Superstorm Sandy devastated parts of the region. So when residents got a warning that they now have to get rid of all of the debris themselves, they were none too happy.
Pete Picucci, 96, spends hours a day sitting in front of his fireplace, the lone source of warmth after Sandy flooded his home, destroying pretty much everything.

By Lucy Madison/ CBS News/ November 3, 2012, 12:42 PM
President Obama on Saturday acknowledged the nation has “a long way to go” in the aftermath following Superstorm Sandy, but pledged the administration will be putting in a “120 percent effort” to ensure the impacted regions get the assistance they need.
Mr. Obama, speaking after a briefing about ongoing recovery efforts at [...]
After driving around my neighborhood on Long Island yesterday to survey the damage done by Hurricane Sandy, I’m changing my forecast. I think we will be without electricity for much longer than a week. Power lines are down everywhere. Many are supporting broken trees that are dangling dangerously over the roads. The repair crews can’t even begin to do their jobs until all the tree debris is removed. I was [...]

ATLANTA — Talk about a wild card.
This one was just plain wild.
Chipper Jones played his final game. The Atlanta fans turned Turner Field into a trash heap after a disputed infield fly call. And the St. Louis Cardinals did what they always seem to do in October.
They celebrated another postseason triumph.
Matt Holliday homered and the Cardinals rallied from an early deficit, taking advantage of three Atlanta throwing errors — the most crucial of them [...]
Reports early Monday from China suggest that a mass disturbance or riots may have broken out at a Foxconn factory in the Chinese city of Taiyuan.
It is still unclear what exactly happened, but posts on China’s popular twitter-like service, Weibo, from users in the area show photographs and video of large numbers of police in and around the factory – many in riot gear – blocking off throngs of people.

From Jeff Clark, Senior Precious Metals Analyst, Casey Research:
For the past eighteen months, gold stocks have been pummeled.
They showed some life from mid-May to mid-June – GDX, the gold miner’s index, was up 21%, while gold rose 5.5%. That bounce was exciting, but they’ve still got a lot of lost ground to make up. Since January 1, 2011, GDX is down 28%, while gold is up 10%.
So what’s going to [...]

Do smokers not know that filters are not cotton, and not easily biodegradable? They are trash, yet most smokers I know/see throw them wherever they are when they finish smoking. Driving down the road, into the water, on the sidewalk. It’s especially gross finding them in the sand at the beach. It’s no different from crumbling up trash and tossing it at your feet.
Edit: I don’t mean to insinuate that [...]

An SUV crashed into a Haverhill home.
HAVERHILL (CBS) – If lightning doesn’t strike twice, Haverhill homeowner Jim Curtis has a hard time believing it. He was sitting at the computer in his Amesbury Street home when an SUV plowed through the front wall landing in the living room.
