Bubble Symmetry and Housing

by Charles Hugh-Smith

If bubbles eventually revert to their starting level, Phase 3–capitulation and a return to pre-bubble prices–still lies ahead for the housing market.

Way back in 2006 at the height of the housing bubble, I prepared this chart proposing the housing bubble might exhibit symmetry, i.e. the decline would mirror the rise. I also proposed that the decline would be characterized by phase shifts that corresponded to the decay of whatever [...]

Private Prisons: The More Americans They Put Behind Bars The More Money They Make

By Michael

How would you describe an industry that wants to put more Americans in prison and keep them there longer so that it can make more money?  In America today, approximately 130,000 people are locked up in private prisons that are being run by for-profit companies, and that number is growing very rapidly.  Overall, the U.S. has approximately 25 percent of the entire global prison population even though it only [...]

Bankrupt, Decaying And Nearly Dead: 24 Facts About The City Of Detroit That Will Shock You

By Michael

If you want to know what the future of America is going to be like, just look at the city of Detroit.  Once upon a time it was a symbol of everything that America was doing right, but today it has been transformed into a rotting, decaying, post-apocalyptic hellhole.  Detroit was once the fourth-largest city in the United States, and in 1960 Detroit had the highest per-capita income in [...]

WARNING: A new White House “executive order” could be targeting the Internet

From Liberty Blitzkrieg:

Our favorite Senator, Jay Rockefeller, the man who lamented the creation of the Internet, is actively urging President Obama to sign an executive order to achieve the same results as the Cybersecurity Act that Congress failed to pass.

It is beyond disgusting that a sitting senator would encourage the president to bypass the legislative branch (of which he is a member) and evade the checks and balances that exist [...]

Freezer failure destroys 1/3 of the world’s largest collection of autism brain samples

A freezer malfunction at Harvard-affiliated McLean Hospital has severely damaged one-third of the world’s largest collection of autism brain samples, potentially setting back research on the disorder by years, scientists say.

An official at the renowned brain bank in Belmont discovered that the freezer had shut down in late May, without triggering two alarms. Inside, they found 150 thawed brains that had turned dark from decay; about a third of them [...]

Turn Out The Lights – The Largest U.S. Cities Are Becoming Cesspools Of Filth, Decay And Wretchedness

Michael, The Economic Collapse

Once upon a time, the largest U.S. cities were the envy of the entire world.  Sadly, that is no longer the case.  Sure, there are areas of New York City, Boston, Washington and Los Angeles that are still absolutely beautiful but for the most part our major cities are rapidly rotting and decaying.  Cities such as Detroit, Cleveland, Baltimore, Memphis, New Orleans, St. Louis and Oakland were all [...]

Packaging that keeps fruit and veg fresh TWICE as long to bring about dramatic reduction in food waste

Revolutionary film slows down rate of decay keeping food fresh for longer

Packaging is bio-degradable and compostable
Allows moisture and gases produced by ripening produce to escape
Average family dumps food worth £680 every year

Fruit and vegetables can be kept fresh for double the normal time thanks to a packaging breakthrough by British scientists.

A revolutionary film slows down the rate at which fresh produce decays, meaning that ‘best before’ dates can be twice [...]

Girl, 18, who grew up homeless and didn’t know how to wash is accepted to HARVARD on scholarship

Homeless, abandoned by her parents and once declared a high school dropout, a hardworking 18-year-old has turned her life around earning her acceptance into Harvard University with scholarship this fall.

High school graduate Dawn Loggins says her life in Lawndale, North Carolina first started out in decay, among bullying and a broken home surrounded by drug use and squalour before eventual abandonment by her parents.

‘I looked around at my family and I saw [...]

What If A Collapse Happened And Nobody Noticed?

Every once and awhile I’ll be listening to a podcast with one or the other writers specializing on the subject of Peak Oil or collapse and the subject of timetables will come up. When will the collapse finally be here, the callers ask insistently, almost pleadingly, so that they can finally justify their investments in freeze-dried foods, water purification tablets and solid gold coins. Inevitably the guest will demur, and [...]

A country in decay: Greece’s youth pay bitter price for the wisdom of their elders

Greek youths will be victims for years to come thanks to the austerity being demanded in return for a 130 billion euro bail-out being hammered out. David Blair reports from Athens.

One policy, aimed squarely at the poorest members of the workforce, might serve to symbolise them all: the minimum wage will fall by 22 per cent to Pounds 490 per month, less than half of the Pounds 1,050 equivalent in [...]

Many Of You Will Not Believe Some Of The Things Americans Are Doing Just To Survive

You might not want to read this article if you have a weak stomach.  Most Americans have absolutely no idea what is going on in the dark corners of America, and when people find out the truth it can come as quite a shock.  Many of you will not believe some of the things Americans are doing just to survive.  Some families are living in sewers and drain tunnels, some [...]

There is a great sense of denial in Europe

via TVR

From Bill Mitchell:

“Over the last week or so I have been in Europe and talking to all sorts of people. In the streets the decay is clear and I am in a relatively rich part of Europe (Maastricht). Unsold properties are multiplying and the there are lots of shopping space vacant in the main centres. It is very apparent to me but when I ask [...]

Flash mobs continue

It’s too early to decide if the “flash mob” is a short-lived phenomenon or part of the growing decay of our society.  However, it bears watching, and if you live in an urban area it bears appropriate thinking about and preparing for self-defense. Some harsh sentences for the few convicted would go a long way toward nipping this in the bud, but in Philadelphia’s juvenile [...]

20 Signs That The Fabric Of American Society Is Coming Apart At The Seams

The American Dream

There is wild disagreement about what is causing it, but what most people can agree on is that there is something fundamentally wrong with America.  The fabric of American society just does not seem to be as strong as it used to.  In fact, many would argue that society is coming apart at the seams. Corruption and decay seem to be everywhere.  I [...]

Shocker: Number One? 20 Not So Good Categories That The United States Leads The World In

Is the United States “number one”?  Many Americans take deep pride in their nation and the truth is that the U.S. has a lot going for it.  The United States has the largest economy in the world.  The United States also has the most powerful military on the entire planet.  The United States has produced most of the greatest movies that the world has ever [...]

A response from a former Harvard astrophysicist

Well, a Becquerel is a really small amount of radiation – 1 decay per second. 3 Becquerel is a very low level.

The trick here is that what matters for health is the total radiation load (rad, rem, Sieverts are units). To convert that you need to know how long the exposure lasts and how long the radioactive iodine atoms are in the thyroid.

One thing to keep in [...]

Must read: Quick Primer on Contamination Control Measures

by Dogs_In_A_Pile

Radiation and contamination are used interchangeably and they are not the same thing, nor are treatment methods.  You can receive radiation exposure and not need any contamination control, and you can become contaminated and not need treatment for exposure to radiation.  NOTE – I am not saying that if you get contaminated you won’t receive any radiation exposure, because you will.  What I am saying [...]

Here is a quick primer on contamination control measures:

by Dogs_In_A_Pile

1.  Know what the radionuclide is – is it particulate or is it a gas?  there are some radionuclides that exist as a radioactive ga that decay to a radioactive particulate.  Just because a gas dissipates doesn’t mean you are safe if you are exposed to an area of particulate that may be stirred up and ingested.

2.  Absent knowledge of the specific radionuclide, don’t expose [...]

The patient is dead for all intents and purposes.

Decay has set in. Yet they are doing a good job falsifying the chart records (we still have a pulse but not strong enough for full recovery yet!), masking the reality with happy talk and diversion, and continuing to pump juice (money) through the circulatory system even though it’s draining out into the reservoirs (banks) below the table.

Death, deflation and depression has arrived. There’s not a lot we can do [...]
