Volt named Car of the Year at Geneva Motor Show

Washington- General Motors extended-range electric Chevrolet Volt had its worst sales month since August, as negative publicity over fire risks hurt vehicles sales in January.
GM sold just 603 Volts – above its sales in January 2011, but far below GM’s best-ever sales month in December, when GM sold 1,529 Volts.

Washington— Nissan Motor Co. announced Wednesday it will build a $2 billion plant in Mexico to initially build 175,000 small cars annually.
The factory will be the Japanese automaker’s third in Mexico and is to “support the company’s Americas growth strategy.” It will begin production in late 2013.
Nissan says further expansion of the site will be considered in phases as product and capacity needs are determined.

General Motors Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson agreed Wednesday to testify next week before a House panel investigating the government’s handling of an investigation into fire risks in the Chevrolet Volt.

Washington — The U.S. Secret Service said today that some federal vehicles for law enforcement and security purposes will be exempt from President Barack Obama’s directive that all federal vehicles purchased starting 2015 be advanced technology models.
