In 2012, the Illinois General Assembly passed the Precious Metal Purchasing Act. SB3341 states
that a person who is in the business of purchasing precious metal shall obtain a proof of ownership, create a record of the sale, and verify the identity of the seller. Provides that a person who is in the business of purchasing precious metal shall not pay for the precious metal in cash and shall record the [...]

Though the following 2002 court case ended with the liberal Ninth Circuit ruling that, “the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution does not guarantee individuals the right to bear arms,” at least one judge stood in dissent.
In his dissent, Judge Alex Kozinski argued with the very reasoning our founding fathers used to include the right to bear arms in the U.S. Constitution to begin with.
It may be a decade since the Ninth Circuit [...]

Feds continues to BUY BACK their own BONDS… and backs of the USA Tax Payer…
from CNBC:
The Federal Reserve held fast to its ultra-accommodative monetary policy Wednesday, solidified by what board members described as an economy weakened by fiscal policy.
Interest rates will remain at historically low levels while the [...]

The Fed is growing increasingly splintered as an organization.
The media hasn’t really picked up on this issue yet. But once they do things could become quite problematic for the Fed.
Remember, the primary force that has held the financial system together since the Crash of 2008 was the view that the Fed could backstop everything.
However, dissent is now growing at the Fed… which means it will be harder for it [...]
Five days of protests in Egypt, with dozens of people killed and entire cities in turmoil, have revealed a whopping deficit of public trust in the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamic group that dominates the leadership of this young democracy of the Arab Spring.
In cities like Port Said, the protesters have displayed an open defiance of President Mohamed Morsi’s orders on a curfew and state of emergency. Egypt’s Army chief warns of the state collapsing. [...]

If there is one country in the world that you would not want to live in, it would be North Korea. Unfortunately, the United States of America is becoming more like North Korea with each passing day. North Korea is a totalitarian police state hellhole where the state rules supreme, the “leader” is lavishly worshipped, no dissent is tolerated, and the government micromanages everything. America is supposed to be the [...]

Having moved to the sidelines due to the uncertainty of the US Presidential election and the Fiscal Cliff negotiations (as well as the holidays), investors are beginning to creep back in the marketplace.
And they’re in for a surprise.
First and foremost, the commitment of traders report indicates that investors are more bullish now than at any point since 2007. This is truly extraordinary given the sheer magnitude of [...]
MOSCOW (AP) — President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday angrily rejected what he described as attempts to enforce foreign patterns of democracy on Russia and vowed to preserve the nation’s identity against interference from abroad.
Putin’s speech was his first state-of-the nation address since winning a third term in March’s election despite a wave of massive protests in Moscow. Putin has pursued a tough course on dissent since his inauguration with arrests [...]
From FT:
The expression of a dissenting opinion, especially when the opinion coincides with the view of a large part of the population of the respective country, generates the impression that discussions within the Governing Council are politicised, and that all members reflect national views. This may encourage pressures by national constituencies on the different ECB Council members to act on the basis of national interests, rather than the broader European [...]
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Unlike at the Republican convention, there will be no dissenting votes at the Democratic convention.
President Obama is slated to receive the vote of every single credentialed delegate attending the Democratic convention, party officials say.
The vote will be “unanimous,” DNC communications director Brad Woodhouse confirmed in an email.
(Also on POLITICO: Full Democratic convention coverage)
Though several perennial and long-shot candidates (including a convinced felon) won enough votes against Obama to qualify [...]
The Pentagon has renewed its shipment of weapons to the Yemeni military, having finally ended the nearly one year halt put on such shipments because of public protests and the military’s crackdown on popular dissent.
Those familiar with the Yemeni military’s checkered human rights history will be concerned to know that the new US aid, totaling $112 million, includes sniper rifles, machine guns, and over 1 million rounds of ammunition.

(Reuters) – For Israel to carry out a long-threatened strike on Iranian nuclear sites, it would have to overcome dissent within its governing coalition reflecting public fear of igniting an unprecedented missile war.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that scenario would be “dwarfed” by the prospect of an Iranian bomb, which he describes as tantamount to a second Holocaust – language that seems to herald a Jewish call to arms.

(Reuters) – Three women who protested against Vladimir Putin in a “punk prayer” on the altar of Russia’s main cathedral went on trial on Monday in a case seen as a test of the longtime leader’s treatment of dissent during a new presidential term.

A Court source tells Salon the chief justice wrote the majority opinion and much of the dissent in the ACA case
This weekend CBS News’ Jan Crawford reported that Chief Justice John Roberts switched his vote in regard to upholding the bulk of the Affordable Care Act. Crawford reports that Roberts voted with the rest of the court’s conservatives to strike down the individual mandate, but in the course of drafting his opinion [...]
One of the few bright spots in last week’s Supreme Court ruling on President Obama’s health care overhaul was a political one: The opinion written by Chief Justice John Roberts argues that Obamacare is constitutional under the taxing powers of Congress. The Obama administration’s advocate before the Court, Solicitor General Donald Verrilli, made this case during oral arguments, and Roberts bought it. The decision, in a sense, formalized what many [...]
As legal scholars study the Supreme Court’s decision in the Obamacare case, more and more are concluding that Justice Anthony Kennedy’s dissenting opinion, striking down the law in its entirety, was once the majority opinion–and that Chief Justice John Roberts switched his vote at a late stage. If so, it would appear that the Chief Justice may have succumbed to the bullying meted out by President Barack Obama, who attacked the Court [...]

MOSCOW (AP) — President Vladimir Putin targeted those who dare oppose him Tuesday, introducing draconian new fines for protesters and handing out Kremlin jobs to widely detested lieutenants despite the public anger they have generated.
A new law introducing a 200-fold increase in fines for taking part in unsanctioned protests was given preliminary approval by the Kremlin-controlled lower house, setting the stage for toughening Putin’s crackdown on dissent.
Opposition lawmakers denounced the new [...]
AMY GOODMAN: Bruce Afran, talk about the significance of the extent to which she struck down this statute.
BRUCE AFRAN: Well, it’s quite incredible, in a sense, because it’s rare that statutes are struck down completely. Judge Forrest struck down the entire provision of the NDAA governing indefinite detention of civilians and U.S. citizens. She said this provision is overbroad. She said it clearly embraces speech, even if it doesn’t intend to. And she [...]

Today, I am going to do something that I have never done: I am going to devote virtually my entire column to posting another man’s words. The following is a written transcript of a speech Dr. Paul gave on the floor of the US House of Representatives back in [...]
While largely uneventful to most, the tomorrow’s FOMC statement redline to the January one will be promptly scoured by algos everywhere for even the tiniest mention of the word inflation, as that will not only push back any hopes for a quick QE episode, but may temper expectations that ZIRP will last through 2014 (as the shaky 3 Year auction earlier indicated). And if JPMorgan’s Michael Feroli is right, inflation is [...]

In some places, such as Maine and Minnesota, Ron Paul is likely to outperform the straw polls in terms of proportion of delegates won. As Lew Rockwell has noted, here and here, Ron Paul activists are sometimes able to take control of the local machines.
Sometimes, however, the opposite apparently happens. As The Washington Times reported on March 10th, Paul actually underperformed his vote tally in Wyoming with local caucuses [...]

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration has closed the U.S. Embassy in Damascus and pulled all American diplomats out of Syria.
Officials say Ambassador Robert Ford and other diplomats left Syria on Monday. It’s the most dramatic U.S. move so far after 11 months of a violent crackdown on dissent by President Bashar Assad’s regime.
The State Department warned last month it would close the embassy unless Assad’s government stepped [...]

An international rights group says Iraq’s government cracked down harshly on dissent during the past year of Arab Spring uprisings, turning the country into a “budding police state” as autocratic regimes crumbled elsewhere in the region.
Human Rights Watch, in its annual report, says Iraqi security forces routinely abuse protesters, harass journalists, torture detainees and intimidate activists.
“Iraq is quickly slipping back into authoritarianism,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, the [...]
