In April of this year researches studying the H7N9 bird flu virus in China advised global governments to get prepared for the worst case scenario. According to the World Health Organization, H7N9 is one the most lethal influenza strains ever identified because it mutates eight times faster than a normal flu virus, and according to official records, has a death-to-infection ratio of about 25%.
It was initially believed that the virus could only [...]
Was created a flu virus with mortality and transmission extremely high. Obtained from experiments in mice, results from the combination of the avian influenza virus H5N1 and swine H1N1. A laboratory in Harbin, north-west China, “live” now a virus that, hopefully, will never get out of there: combines the strength of the lethal H5N1 avian flu outbreak of 2003, with ease of transmission of H1N1, responsible The 2009 flu. The [...]

A new study has found that people who received a flu shot before the outbreak of the 2009 H1N1 pandemic were more likely to catch the swine flu virus, a startling discovery given the fact that experts have blamed the pharmaceutical industry for deliberately engineering the pandemic to make huge profits from vaccines.
“Researchers, led by Vancouver’s Dr. Danuta Skowronski, an influenza expert at the B.C. Centre [...]

A scientific paper was released this past week after much controversy. The findings of the paper, some feared, could be used to develop a highly contagious version of the Avian H5N1 (Bird Flu) virus. While those fears have largely been quelled, the researcher’s findings indicate that a pandemic of H5N1 is “just 3 mutations away.”
Currently, H5N1 can only be transmitted to humans from birds. It cannot pass from human [...]

Amid the controversy surrounding the potential release of heavily weaponized H5N1 bird flu, scientists are now reporting that they have found evidence of flu in bats, and state that the risk to humans is unclear. Being labeled as ‘bat flu’, the discovery marks the first documented report of a flu virus in winged mammals. For now, scientists have not been able to grow the virus and are unaware of how [...]

UNDERFUNDED PENSIONS
Interative map on the NPR link below. Note that funding levels are affected by actuarial growth assumptions, with some states having fund growth rate assumptions that may be overly optimistic in light of the 3E realities.
Special caution states: Illinois and Kansas.
