Disgraced ex-IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn is countersuing the New York hotel maid whose accusation of sexual assault last year brought down his glittering political career.
The countersuit, signed Monday and made public Tuesday, seeks at least $1 million plus undetermined punitive damages from the maid, Nafissatou Diallo, who is accused of “falsely and maliciously asserting” she was attacked.
The 18-page document accuses Diallo of malicious prosecution, abuse of process, false imprisonment, defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

From Athens News:
Alexis Tsipra’s hopes of meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and newly appointed French President Francois Hollande, have been shot down in flames, after his requests were denied by both parties. “The Chancellor only meets with chiefs of state and government” was the short answer by a Merkel representative, while the French Presidency has said that protocol does not allow for meetings between the President and political party leaders.
French socialist Francois Hollande has won a clear victory in the country’s presidential election.
Mr Hollande – who polled just under 52% of votes in Sunday’s run-off – spoke of his pride at becoming president.
Admitting defeat, centre-right incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy wished “good luck” to Mr Hollande.
Analysts say the vote has wide implications for the whole eurozone. Mr Hollande has vowed to rework a deal on government debt in member countries.

His platform: raise taxes on business to fund a lower retirement age and more spending. Things don’t look good for poor old France. Either Hollande will [...]

Francois Holland, the challenger for the French Presidency, and likely victor next weekend, has given a big speech in Paris.
You can read the full text here, but the key paragraph is this, which we’ve turned into English via Google translate.
The word growth, which had disappeared from official statements, is now assumed. I am even told that there would be texts that already circulate among the various chancelleries and governments to take a number of initiatives for growth. Good! And so I myself have committed in the aftermath of the presidential election, send a memorandum to all European governments, so there [...]

My Dear Extended Family,
Do not discount this. It has the potential of being the most important positive development in the euro since the beginning of the USA and GB’s MSM/MOPE assault on Euroland’s problems.
This I am told is the reason behind the Euro holding above $1.30 no matter how much the US and GB MSM/MOPE is thrown at it. This is another economic war taking place [...]
Growth in China’s exports slowed in December because of sluggish demand from the US and Europe.
Exports rose by 13.4% from a year earlier, the customs agency said, down from 13.8% in November.
Import growth also slowed, rising 11.8% compared with the previous year, much lower than the 22.1% growth in November.
The latest figures could fuel worries that the world’s second largest economy is losing steam.
China’s Vice Commerce Minister Zhong Shan [...]

NEW YORK — The sexual assault case against former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn is near collapse, sources said Thursday.

The leader of the International Monetary Fund now embroiled in a criminal assault case in New York City was cleared in 2008 of harassment charges after an affair with an IMF economist.
But it’s that kind of behavior that should make the world wonder about trusting the IMF, Rep. Ron Paul said Sunday.
The 2008 Republican presidential candidate told “Fox News Sunday” that Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who was pulled off an Air [...]
