Obama phone advocates fight back, but call drops

“After the Federal Communication Commission reported this week that 41 percent of those receiving free mobile phones don’t meet the requirements — some because they’re dead — the proponents of the so-called “Obama phone” program are firing back. But they still miss the point.”

“U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., known for his periodic “Pork Reports” of government waste, said the program is “ballooning out of control” and has “morphed into a [...]

DEM REP JOINS HUNGER STRIKE FOR POSTAL SERVICE

Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) on Monday helped kick off a hunger strike of postal workers protesting what they say is an effort to privatize and dismantle the cash-strapped United States Postal Service.

The strike — which includes 10 postal workers, union activists and supporters, but not Kucinich himself — is the latest in a long saga of efforts to reform the postal service as it faces a dim financial future.

While lawmakers generally agree that postal reform is [...]

Newt’s Secret Service detail likely costing taxpayers tens of thousands per day

Gingrich reportedly requested Secret Service protection in February and was granted a detail in early March. In April 2008, Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan told the Homeland Security Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee that it was [...]

The point of the film and project, Ellen Hubbard said, [...]

But during the day, it just seems like a waste.

“It’s a lot of money going down the drain,” says Steve Douthitt.

Steve Douthitt lives in a neighborhood where street lights stayed on all [...]

Sen. Tom Coburn: “I think you’ll see a 15 to 18 percent unemployment rate. I think you will see an 8 to 9 percent decline in GDP . I think you’ll see the middle class just destroyed if we don’t do this(control government spending).”

via foxnews:

“Apocalyptic pain” from an out-of-control debt could cause 18 percent unemployment and a massive contraction in the economy that would destroy the middle class, a leading Republican deficit hawk said in an interview that aired Sunday.

Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., who recently issued a report on government waste, warned that the U.S. only has about three or four years to get its fiscal house in order or it could [...]

An estimated 2/3rds of the $50 billion PER MONTH trade deficit in the U.S. is caused by the IMPORTATION AND USE OF EXPENSIVE FOREIGN OIL.

by anonymous

The United States imports 20 million barrels of oil PER DAY or 1 BILLION barrels every 50 days !!

The U.S. trade deficit is now nearly $1 trillion dollars per year, which accumulates year by year. Of this $1 trillion dollar yearly trade deficit, $600 billion is caused by the importation of oil into the U.S.

This fact has been largely absent during recent political discussions about [...]

This is one of the many reasons why Keynes himself said that he wasn’t a Keynsian.

Government waste does not create economic growth, period. Government spending is inherently a form of institutionalised consumption. So somebody else needs to create the wealth to fund such consumption.

In Western Europe, we live in a “Keynesian” world now. We are already reaping the negative consequences of that. But still our Treasury departments, our politicians, our trade unions and too many of our economists refuse to get it.

When they get caught [...]
