The United Kingdom is often held up as a successful example of gun control by those on the left. But a recent poll by the Daily Telegraph, one of England’s most widely-read publications, shows Britons themselves are far from sold on the laws.
In a poll asking readers what laws they would like to see introduced or changed, an overwhelming number of voters chose “repeal the ban on [...]
under Senate Bill 53, responsible gun owners would be required to submit personal information to the state, undergo a background check and pay a $50 fee before being allowed to buy ammunition. Their information would be stored in a state database controlled by the Justice Department and the individual would have to present photo ID at a gun store upon making an ammo purchase.
Additionally, gun dealers and ammo vendors would [...]
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Threatening letters addressed to Mayor Michael Bloomberg in both New York and Washington, D.C. have been found preliminarily to contain ricin, police said Wednesday.
The anonymous threats to Bloomberg were opened in New York City on Friday, and by the director of the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns – of which Bloomberg is co-chairman – on Sunday.
Preliminary tests on both letters concluded that they contained the deadly toxin [...]
After a late start, and a “ten minute break” that lasted more than a half hour, the NJ Senate committee on gun control decides to cut off public comment on the proposed gun control bills at 4 o’clock. The chairman and most of the committee then refuse to honor the pledge of allegiance. This took place at the NJ Senate gun control hearings in Trenton on April 30, 2013.

We can all do our part when it comes to defeating tyranny, and we need your help on this one. Sue in New Jersey, a friend of SGT Report, sent us this memo moments ago. Sue tells us that “several NJ legislators were recently caught on an open mic at one of these “fake” gun control hearings here in NJ. You know where they pretend to listen, but pass [...]
Between 1993 and 2011, nonfatal gun crimes plummeted 69%; from 1.5 million to 467,300. Gun-related murders dropped 40%; from 18,253 to 11,101. Gun-related murders for black Americans plummeted by 51%.
The report also shows that the media-created hysteria over school shootings is wildly misleading. Between ’93 and ’11, the murder rate in schools dropped by almost a third; from 29 to 20.

WASHINGTON — The National Rifle Association is using a Justice Department memo it obtained to argue in ads that the Obama administration believes its gun control plans won’t work unless the government seizes firearms and requires national gun registration — ideas the White House has not proposed and does not support.
The NRA’s assertion and its obtaining of the memo in the first place underscore the no-holds-barred battle under way as Washington’s fight over gun restrictions heats up.

From Ron Paul:
This week, as Americans were horrified by the attacks in Boston, both houses of Congress considered legislation undermining our liberty in the name of “safety.”
Gun control continued to be the focus of the Senate, where an amendment expanding federal “background checks” to gun show sales and other private transfers dominated the debate. While the background check amendment failed to pass, proponents of gun control have made it clear [...]
The gun lobby employed both the carrot and stick in convincing enough U.S. senators to oppose gun-control reforms.
Of the 45 senators who voted against the legislation, 42 received contributions from the National Rifle Association (NRA) in the most recent election cycle alone, as did 205 of the 435 members of the House of Representatives. Only four of the 56 senators who voted in favor of increased background checks received money [...]

Obama running short of time to burnish legacy in second term
The next 10 weeks are a make-or-break period for President Obama’s second-term agenda.

Congress returns Monday for a pivotal week in which lawmakers will attempt to reach agreements on proposals for gun-control and immigration-reform — perhaps the two biggest issues in Washington this year.
Though the Senate has been working on both issues only since the new Congress began in January, Washington lawmakers have tried for years to draft comprehensive immigration reform, while the issue of gun-control was thrust upon them after 20 first-graders [...]
