Internet service providers having to store for a year all details of online communication in the UK – such as the time, duration, originator and recipient of a communication and the location of the device from which it was made.

Tax hitmen to track your spending – Up to two million people are to have their credit files secretly checked under a crackdown on tax evasion to be unveiled by George Osborne to help raise another £10 billion.

Credit reference agencies will cross-check details of the income people declare on their tax returns against their spending patterns to identify “high” and “medium” risks of both illegal and legal tax avoidance.

People identified to HM Revenue and Customs will then be subject to more detailed investigations. About two million people are expected to be scrutinised under the programme, which may lead to privacy concerns.

UK government moving ahead with plans to lower taxation for the richest people in UK whilst increasing indirect taxes and impact of inflation for the poorer and middle classes:

Business Secretary Vince Cable says replacing the 50p tax rate with some form of wealth tax is among a “complex set of negotiations” within the coalition ahead of the Budget.

The Lib Dems were not “ideologically wedded to the 50p tax rate”, he said.

But he added that if it were to go, it “should be replaced by taxation of wealth”.

UK government borrowing rises to record high:

Net borrowing totalled £23.3bn last month, up from £17.4bn a year ago, and more than analysts had expected.

The borrowing figure was pushed higher by increased spending on health, defence and the EU.

The latest figures are likely to raise concerns about the government’s efforts to reduce the UK’s budget deficit.
