Activists demanding the closure of the Guantanamo Bay prison have marked the 100th day of a hunger strike there by submitting a petition to the White House containing some 370,000 signatures.
A group of activists wearing orange jumpsuits and black hoods like those used on detainees at Guantanamo Bay gathered outside the White House on Friday to call for the immediate closure of the controversial jail.

from Zero Hedge:
Student debt has seemingly been the transmission channel of choice for pumping credit into the US economy for the last few years as the government addition of $1 trillion has done nothing butleave those under-55 with fewer and fewer jobs (especially above-minimum-wage jobs) while saddled with non-extinguishable debt. Of course, this ‘pump’ of credit has had the usual unintended ‘inflationary’ consequence of raising tuition prices (which as we noted this morning was the main [...]

(NaturalNews) Europe’s economies have been on a fiscal collision course for years, what with more people taking from the various socialist systems around the continent than paying into them. But Greece and Spain are probably the closest to the abyss, economists warn, and are liable to plunge off the cliff any day now.
In Athens, where elections on June 17 will decide the country’s place in [...]

Greek ATM Lines And Expiration Bluffing Send Stocks South – Tuesday’s trading turned strange even before the market had opened in New York.
An oversold condition and decent data at 8:30 had U.S. futures bubbling on the upside early on.
Suddenly, around 9:00 EDT, lightening seemed to strike. Futures tanked and European markets went into a freefall.
“What just happened” was the cry that echoed across the floor.
The trigger was the [...]

I’m always on the lookout for headlines like these demonstrating the extreme ridiculousness necessary to indicate cyclical tops and bottoms of a given theme in the markets or the economy.
From CNNMoney via Yahoo Finance:
This year, hundreds of thousands of Americans are expected to be too broke to file for bankruptcy.
The average cost to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection, the most common form of consumer bankruptcy, is [...]

A computer game designed to lift teenagers out of depression is as effective as one-on-one counselling, New Zealand doctors reported on Thursday in the British Medical Journal (BMJ).
Researchers at the University of Auckland tested an interactive 3-D fantasy game called SPARX on a 94 youngsters diagnosed with depression whose average age was 15 and a half.

The life of man upon earth is a warfare… Job 7:1

Last week we had Citigroup warning that the market bottom is about to fall out, as the Fed is more than likely to disappoint already very lofty expectations (according to various estimates from both Goldman and the second Tier banks, i.e., all of them, the market has priced in roughly $500 billion in QE3 already). Today, Bank of America, which may or may not be with us [...]
And so we return to that point when the most engaging, yet useless, topic of discussion is what Bernanke will say or the Fed will do, in this case this coming Friday at the 2011 edition of the Jackson Hole Fed meeting, and specifically Ben’s keynote speech. By now we have seen endless iterations of what pundits expect will happen: from nothing to another round [...]
It’s good, it represents progress, build from it. That would be a helpful approach to the Gang of Six proposal on the debt. Don’t deep-six it because it’s flawed. Flawless isn’t going to happen. There will be a big election in 2012. A lot can be settled then, and after.
The Gang of Six—three Democrats and three Republicans in the Senate—this week put forward a plan aimed [...]

I REALLY NEED NOT SAY ANTHY BUT GIVE YOU A QUOTE THEN LET YOU READ WHAT IS NOW COMING OUT OF THE MOUTH OF THE WHITE MAN HIMSELF.
“The Bible prophesies of the plagues that would come upon America — and these plagues are falling on America now, and yet she will not repent. For America continues to kill [...]
By definition, a plutocracy is government by the wealthy. The only thing worse than an outright plutocracy is a stealth plutocracy. The anger and hopelessness so many Americans feel stems from the fact that we are effectively being ruled by a plutocracy in the form of the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve Board of Governors is composed of individuals appointed by the president and approved [...]
“Tax revenue, desperately needed in order to consolidate the national finances, has dropped off. A mixture of fear, hopelessness and anger is brewing in Greek society”
“If you take away my family’s bread, I’ll take you down — the government needs to know that,” Meletis says. “And don’t call us anarchists if that happens! We’re heads of our families and we’re desperate.”
He predicts the situation will only become more heated. “Things [...]
