A former student of mine works for one of our US Senators.
This person informed me today that a certain sub-committee on competitiveness
has commissioned a study on the feasibility of scanning cash every time it is exchanged.
A scan of your real ID will be required to lawfully purchase with cash.
The stated goal is to eliminate terrorist funding,
counterfeit currency, and illegal drug trafficking.
One suggestion tossed about in committee would ‘tag’ certain bills [...]

According to a report published earlier this week, some $4.5 billion has been inappropriately applied to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as food stamps, including benefits that were administered to 2,000 dead people in New York and Massachusetts.
Sen. Tom Coburn’s (R-Okla.) new archive of government waste, entitled the 2012 “Waste Book,” found that “7,236 people in these states are receiving duplicate benefits, while 286 are [...]
Retiring Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) said he once tried a pot-infused brownie — and it made him sleepy.
Frank is an advocate of legalizing and taxing marijuana, but he said Wednesday night that he does not regularly use the illegal drug.
“No, I don’t,” Frank told CNN when asked if he smoked marijuana. “I smoke a cigar or two a day. I did have a brownie once. It made me sleepy.”

An Israeli company, Elta, will install a radar system to monitor the U.S.-Mexico border for illegal immigration and drug smuggling.
Elta’s technology can identify potential human infiltrators from as far as 13 miles away and vehicles from 26 miles out. The U.S.-Israel agreement opens up a potential market “worth hundreds of millions of dollars” to Elta, according to IsraelDefense.com.
India has expressed interest in similarly using Israeli border-protection technology.

The Central Intelligence Agency’s involvement in drug trafficking is back in the media spotlight after a spokesman for the violence-plagued Mexican state of Chihuahua became the latest high-profile individual to accuse the CIA, which has been linked to narcotics trafficking for decades, of ongoing efforts to “manage the drug trade.” The infamous American spy agency refused to comment.
In a recent interview, Chihuahua state spokesman Guillermo Terrazas [...]

Mike talks with Blair Hamrick, a big pharm whistleblower who has blown the lid off the bribery of physicians, the push for off-label marketing of drugs for unapproved health conditions, and the illegal marketing of drugs to children by GlaxoSmithKline.
Seven people were arrested yesterday on suspicion of raising money for terrorism by smuggling a banned stimulant drug from England to the US.
The suspects were held during a series of co-ordinated raids on homes in four cities and towns across England and Wales.
They have been linked to a multi-million-pound international conspiracy to import a drug called khat to the US and Canada, where it is illegal.
Drug ring: Seven people have [...]
And this is why the war on drugs is great for corporations who run prisons:
Amelioration of today’s drug problem requires Americans to understand the significance of the 80-20 ratio. Twenty percent of American drinkers consume 80 percent of the alcohol sold here. The same 80-20 split obtains among users of illicit drugs.
About 3 million people — less than 1 percent of America’s population — consume 80 percent of illegal hard [...]

Greece is offering a ‘cop-for-hire’ service, renting out policemen for €30 per hour, plus €10 if you want a police car too. It triggered fears that security of people who cannot afford a policeman for hire may be affected in favor of those who can.
This new way for the cash-strapped Greek state to raise money will “pay for the cost of using police materials and infrastructure, and allow to [...]
