The U.S. will reach its debt limit on Saturday, Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew told congressional leaders in a letter on Friday, but said the U.S. is taking extraordinary measures to keep paying bills. Lew said those measures, including previously announced suspension of sales of state and local Treasury securities, won’t be exhausted until “after Labor Day.”

Finally I’m starting to see some common sense legislation come out of these people.
Those who are going to get free or reduced cost lunches are most likely going to be ones that are raised with no work ethic, this might help with that. Naturally the Libs are going to fight this tooth and nail b/c it causes “inequities!”

Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz said Thursday that the Department of Homeland Security is using roughly 1,000 rounds of ammunition more per person than the U.S. Army, as he and other lawmakers sharply questioned DHS officials on their “massive” bullet buys.
“It is entirely … inexplicable why the Department of Homeland Security needs so much ammunition,” Chaffetz, R-Utah, said at a hearing.
The hearing itself was unusual, as questions about the department’s ammunition [...]
The chief of the FAA told Congress today that Washington-area airports will largely escape the effects of the air traffic controller furloughs — a blessing for lawmakers who fly out of the nation’s capitol.
Michael Huerta, head of the Federal Aviation Administration, told a congressional panel that the Washington region’s airports are spaced out enough and have enough spare capacity that furloughs to air traffic controllers won’t hurt as much here.
The immigration proposal pending in Congress would transform the nation’s political landscape for a generation or more — pumping as many as 11 million new Hispanic voters into the electorate a decade from now in ways that, if current trends hold, would produce an electoral bonanza for Democrats and cripple Republican prospects in many states they now win easily.
Beneath the philosophical debates about amnesty and border security, there are brass-tacks [...]

Senators could vote as early as next week on legislation that would give states the authority to collect sales taxes from online purchases, Democratic Senate aides said on Wednesday, a significant step forward after years of false starts.

President Barack Obama signed legislation Wednesday barring members of Congress, the president and thousands of federal workers from profiting from nonpublic information learned on the job, calling it an embodiment of the fundamental American value of fair play.
Obama said the move to bar insider trading among lawmakers would assure everyone “plays by the same rules.”
“It’s the notion that the powerful shouldn’t get to create one set of rules for themselves and [...]

Ranking RepublicanSaxby Chambliss (R-GA) emerged from the [...]
“Relying on a stack of documents, Sachs told me when leadership in the general assembly brought the measure to lawmakers they did so by emergency certification, which is meant to speed up the process to pass a bill when an emergency calls for it. According to Sachs, state statute requires the speaker of the house and senate president to provide the facts in writing as to why an emergency certification [...]

North Korea has been rattling its sabers once again, even producing some videos that threaten attacks on US forces using “powerful weapons of mass destruction” and show an invasion of Seoul where thousands of American citizens are taken hostage. American senators are already up in arms about how a “major war” is brewing on the Korean peninsula.
But as usual, American lawmakers are completely missing the point. The [...]

Last year, when the state of Illinois attempted to follow New Jersey by making it difficult and more expensive to acquire ammunition, we warned that new government initiatives would be used to try and circumvent the Second Amendment. Rather than targeting firearms directly, lawmakers and government security officials began looking to ammunition as a sure-fire way to disarm Americans.
While it may have been hard to believe then, given the [...]
