Investors are fuming. But traders, the lucky ones who got the timing right, love it. And so do the big Wall Street firms that shuffle companies around. Nightmarish scenarios of the coming financial collapse

The magazine then offers its darkly pessimistic scenarios of an economy in tatters, in which one out of four workers is unemployed, and for part-time workers, hourly compensation will plummet. Employers will not even reimburse them for their transportation.

With government revenues drying up, there will be mass layoffs of civil servants as well. Public works projects will come to a screeching halt, and as budgets for education, the arts and [...]

Bloody More Layoffs In Securities And Investment Banking Than Originally Planned

Mass layoffs started in Goldman’s London office last week, and it sounds like they’re going to continue everywhere.

One source told us that Goldman Sachs plans to lay off up to 20% of its employees in investment banking and securities.

Another source says 20% seems high. However there’s no question that the original number of layoffs (1,000 globally) that Goldman had planned has been revisited and revised by a lot.

As President Obama campaigns for more government spending-a.k.a. his jobs plan-new unemployment claims provide fresh evidence the economy is stalling and in danger of slipping into a second recession. Big government could easily take unemployment above 15 percent and create a hole too big to ascend.

We are in a depression. Not a dip, not a double dip, not a recession and certainly not recovered.

U-6 employment figures show that we are bombed out in the private sector. Soon we will see mass layoffs at the state, city, county levels in at least 35 states that cannot balance budgets or avoid bond defaults any other way.

Here is the list of the ten jobs categories that will not recover based on 24/7 Wall St. research:

1. State and local government jobs. The level of unemployment in this sector continues to rise. Budget imbalances in a number of states have already caused mass layoffs as tax receipts have dropped sharply.

2. Construction. Nationwide construction unemployment was 17% in August, up from 16.5% in the same month last year. Over the course of the summer, government statistics have shown sharp drops in the construction of new homes and [...]
