National Weather Service issues -Particularly Dangerous Situation- alert

The National Weather Service has issued what is called a “Particularly Dangerous Situation” for southeast Louisiana, an event that is not common and could mean dangerous weather on the way.

According to WWLTV meteorologist Derek Kevra, “The potential for severe weather is now looking like a certainty with winds of 75 miles per hour, large hail and the possibility of tornadoes.”

NIGHTMARE: NYC Penn Station service suspended on busiest travel day of year

The switch problem that led to a complete service shutdown at Penn Station on the busiest travel night of the year has been resolved, Long Island Rail Road said.

The station — which was shut down due to overcrowding — was reopened.

Amtrak, NJ Transit and Long Island Rail Road were all still down for about an hour.

Secret Service Asking Americans to Report Tweets That ‘Concern You’

(CNSNews.com) – The Secret Service has expanded its operation to Twitter, urging Americans to report on their fellow citizens whose tweets “concern you.”

 

“To report a tweet that concerns you, call the nearest field office in your state,” the Secret Service tweeted on Oct. 23.  The agency then links to a list of contact numbers for Field Offices in each state.

Connecticut town which is 94% white accused of deliberately keeping ethnic minorities out

A town in Connecticut deliberately tried to keep out non-white residents from settling in the area, according to a lawsuit.

Winchester, a rural town with a population of just 11,000, is 94.4 per cent white, and official statistics show that it contains no African-American families.

The lawsuit launched last week argues that town officials directed housing subsidies to white families to avoid an influx of ethnic minorities.

Postal Service on verge of default

Without help from Congress, the U.S. Postal Service is likely to default on a big bill due Wednesday to the federal government — $5.5 billion to prepay health care benefits for retirees.

REPORT: Average city teacher salary tops $100,000

[Milwaukee, Wisconsin] MacIver News Service – For the first time in history, the average annual compensation for a teacher in the Milwaukee Public School system will exceed $100,000.

That staggering figure was revealed last night at a meeting of the MPS School Board.
