Bloomberg moves to ban tobacco from sight in stores

NEW YORK (AP) — A new proposal would require New York City retailers to keep tobacco products out of sight under a first-in-the-nation proposal aimed at reducing the youth smoking rate, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday.

The legislation would require stores to keep tobacco products in cabinets, drawers, under the counter, behind a curtain or in other concealed spots. They could only be visible when an adult is making a purchase [...]

China Warns It Will Respond “Forcefully” To Japanese Violation Of Its “Territorial Sovereignty”

While the topic of the Japanese purchase of the contested [Senkaku|Diaoyu] Islands may have receded from the front pages of global media for lack of any major recent developments, the issue is still quite ripe in the minds of over 1 billion Chinese (and several hundred million Japanese, not to mention the executives of Japanese car and electronics makers who have seen a cliff-like collapse in purchases of their products [...]

FINAL COUNTDOWN: Romney rally Ohio votes as Obama preps for debate

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (AP) — Republicans Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan went back to school on Saturday to rally college students in all corners of all-important Ohio and hammer at President Barack Obama for going easy on China over unfair trade practices that they said are costing American jobs. Obama took precious time off the campaign trail to practice for the next debate against his GOP rival.

It was an unspoken acknowledgment of the importance that Obamaattaches to upping his game [...]

Gold WARNING: A “devious” form of counterfeit gold has been discovered in New York

From Zero Hedge:

It is one thing for tungsten-filled gold bars to appear in the U.K. or in Germany: after all, out of sight and across the Atlantic, certainly must mean out of mind and out of the safe.

However, when a 10-ounce 999.9 gold bar bearing the stamp of the reputable Swiss Produits Artistiques Métaux Précieux (PAMP, with owner MTP) and a serial number mysteriously emerges in the heart of the [...]

Don’t expect the European Central Bank single-handedly to save the euro

SOMEBODY must have put on the wrong film. In late July Mario Draghi, president of the European Central Bank, came out looking like a tough sheriff ready to take on bond-market speculators while others cringed. The euro was irreversible, he declared. “The ECB is ready to do whatever it takes to preserve the euro. And believe me, it will be enough.”

Yet instead of a great shoot-out, Mr Draghi later said [...]

It’s funny how back in March/April 2010 everyone thought Ireland was not going to be a problem…

It’s funny how back in March/April 2010 everyone thought Ireland was not going to be a problem, because they were supposedly, “doing the right thing”, making cuts, winding down excesses, blah-blah-de-blah-blah, … and people were trying to argue that Italy was not really all that indebted, so was not really one of the PIIGS, so should be OK, … and other people were asserting that Spain would not become like [...]

The Extent to Which Public Schools and Mainstream Media Have Brainwashed Young Americans

Adan Salazar

July 13, 2012

Whether it’s a general apathy for all things political, youth just turning a blind-eye to current events, or a reflection of the sad state of public education, it seems that kids these days aren’t too savvy when it comes to presidential candidates, other than Barack Obama.

Hopefully this is an over-generalization, but judging by what transpired when my friends and I tried to post our “Stop Dictator Obama” [...]

Sandusky’s wife: I never saw or heard anything

By MICHAEL RUBINKAM
Associated Press

She’s been a constant, if silent, presence by Jerry Sandusky’s side.

Dottie Sandusky had not spoken publicly in more than six months until taking the witness stand Tuesday to proclaim her husband’s innocence in his child sex-abuse trial.

Critics say she also stood quietly by while Sandusky – the once-revered Penn State assistant football coach – molested boys in the basement of their State College home. They say she [...]

WHERE’S HUGO?

ARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has been out of sight for a week, speaking only through Twitter messages and written statements while undergoing cancer treatment in Cuba.

The lack of any appearances on television has Venezuelans wondering about what his unusual silence might say about his struggle with cancer, and whether Chavez may be coping with a particularly tough phase of radiation therapy.

More than two dozen messages have [...]

Presenting Economic Reality

by ZH

Following today’s disappointing jobs data, we thought it useful to reflect on the sad reality that is occurring under the eyes of AAPL Mr. Market. As BofAML notes this morning, their Economic Data Diffusion index (which tracks macro data surprises) has been trending lower for over a month (indicating a trend of data missing expectations to the downside) and, more importantly has turned absolutely negative (indicating a marginally negative bias to [...]

Female made to go through TSA and radiation scanners three times on pretence it was blurry image overheard workers making comments about her body and admitting it wasn’t a blurry image, say she feels harassed:

RT

A Texas woman says she feels sexually harassed after TSA agents at Dallas International Airport subjected her to a full body imaging scan three times — and told her in-between that her figure was “cute.”

Ellen Terrell, a married mother from Dallas, TX, tells CBS News she felt “totally exposed” after Transportation Security Administration officials repeatedly asked her to participate in an invasive full-body scan while she attempted to board a [...]

World’s tiniest frogs found in Papua New Guinea

From breitbart:

With voices hardly louder than an insect’s buzz, the tiniest frogs ever discovered are smaller than a coin and hop about the rainforest of the tropical island of Papua New Guinea, US scientists said Wednesday.

Not only are these little peepers with the big names — Paedophryne amauensis and Paedophryne swiftorum — the smallest frogs known to man, they are also believed to be the smallest vertebrates on Earth, said the report in [...]

Is a Safe in your home really Safe?

Start by watching a few videos on how (little) it actually takes to break into your new safe (there are many similar videos available on Youtube on how easy it is to break into a wide range of safes):

When you finally do buy a safe, remember the following:

1.  Make sure your safe has a “relocking device” (not cheap, but absolutely necessary…google it)

2.  Hide the safe completely out of sight, bolt [...]

10-year Afghan war mark to pass quietly

WASHINGTON (AP) — A decade of war will pass quietly at the White House this week.

President Barack Obama plans no public events Friday to mark a moment the nation never really expected: 10 years of war in Afghanistan. Out of sight and off the minds of millions of Americans, the war is the most prolonged conflict this country has been engaged in [...]

Polls show that a majority of Americans say that both the Republicans and Democrats are doing such a poor job representing the people that a new, third party is needed.

I’ve repeatedly warned that there is a scripted, psuedo-war between Dems and Repubs, liberals and conservatives which is in reality a false divide-and-conquer dog-and-pony show created by the powers that be to keep the American people divided and distracted. See this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this and this.

In fact, the Founding Fathers warned us [...]

CORAL GABLES—

After Aug. 8, Coral Gables will start issuing tickets to people who violate the parking ban.The [...]

Australia poised to allow camel cull; Investors to claim ‘carbon credits’

From FT:

Killing a camel to earn a carbon credit may seem a curious way to tackle climate change, but one country is poised to allow investors to do precisely that.

The camel culling plan is one of the first to arise under the Australian government’s new “carbon farming initiative”, a scheme that lets farmers or investors claim carbon credits if they can show they have cut greenhouse gas [...]

According to Moody’s Analytics, when it comes to manufacturing the U.S. is a global leader in the production of medical equipment, airplanes, movies, pharmaceuticals and agriculture products

In the first part of ABC News’ series, “Made in America,” correspondents David Muir and Sharyn Alfonsi removed all foreign made products from the Usry family’s Dallas home.

The result: A virtually empty house — no beds, no tables, no chairs, no couches. The only items that were left were a vase, a candle and some pottery.

Bruce Katz, the director of metropolitan policy at the Brookings Institution [...]

‘Fabricate’ news

A policeman videotapes foreign journalists in Beijing. An official Chinese …

An official Chinese newspaper has accused foreign journalists in the country of fabricating news in the latest sign of official nerves over an online campaign for anti-government rallies.

The commentary in the Global Times came a day after police threatened foreign journalists on Wednesday that they could lose permission to work in China unless they obey vague new [...]

Once Again China Shows How It’s Done: China, Tired Of Manipulating Home Price Data, Suspends It

by ZH

Once again China shows how it’s done. Instead of continuing to issue it vastly manipulated national property price index, the Chinese statistics agency has simply decided to stop publishing this highly regarded (if completely irrelevant) metric. From the WSJ: “China’s statistics agency said it will stop publishing the country’s much-watched official index of national property prices.” The reason: even armed with Moody’s GIGO spreadsheets [...]

I never been so interested in economics.

Extremely enlightening:
“Fear the Boom and Bust” a Hayek vs. Keynes Rap Anthem

My feeling is that the Fed is the institution responsible for maintaing the new American feudal system. It is a system that uses debt to control people, and wealth is maintained in the top echelon of “invisible rich”:

- A huge multitude of serfs, with no wealth, living under debt slavery.

-A professional class, filling the vassals’ role. [...]

This came out over the weekend and is very interesting indeed…

It’s nice to know I’m not alone in my perception of this problem…at 64 I’ve been tracking the gradually evolving process for just over fifty years.

After another big plastering of “recovery” articles hit these MarketWatch pages recently…I purposely posted a “do I have your attention”…scathing comment…on Friday, April 30th…concerning the importance and relevance of this average 450,000 first time un-employment filings number…that’s been rolling through… week after week…for several years [...]
