The Peaceful Streets Project has proven it’s here to stay, much to the dismay of police officers across Austin, TX. The group is furious at police abuse of authority and has been holding Know Your Rights trainings in efforts to keep public servants in check.
Their trainings primarily consist of teaching what and what not to do or say in the presence of officers in order to survive encounters while [...]
US NAVY FIRES ON SHIP IN PERSIAN GULF, ONE DEAD
An American Navy ship fired on a boat in the Persian Gulf today, killing one person and injuring three others aboard the craft, a U.S. naval official told ABC News.
A spokesperson for the Navy’s 5th Fleet, which is based in nearby Bahrain, said that a security team aboard the oil supply ship U.S.N.S. Rappahannock fired a .50 caliber machine gun at [...]
A Russian ship carrying attack helicopters that was prevented from sailing to Syria has been refitted with a Russian flag, rousing suspicions it is preparing for a second attempt.
The MV Alaed, carrying air defence systems and helicopters to Syria, was forced to return to port last week after its British insurers withdrew their coverage as the ship rounded the coast of Scotland. The Foreign Office and Treasury had warned the insurance company, Standard Club, [...]
Moscow forcefully rejected on Wednesday Hillary Clinton’s accusation that Russia was supplying Syria with helicopter gunships that could be used against civilians, as Syria announced it had “cleansed” the rebel town of Haffa of armed fighters.
Speaking in Tehran, Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister, said Moscow was instead “completing contracts that were signed and paid for a long time ago. All of them are contracts for what are solely air defence systems.”

Responding to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the establishment media on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said his country is not arming the al-Assad regime in Syria with attack helicopters.
“We are concerned by the latest information we have that there are attack helicopters on the way from Russia to Syria, which will escalate the conflict quite dramatically,” Clinton told a conference in Washington on June 12.
“We are not delivering [...]

Once a president is in place, the council is supposed to hand him the keys to power, and step back into the background.
Yet even as Egyptians started voting on [...]

Some of the police brutality that has occurred at Occupy demonstrations around the country has been appalling. It’s particularly upsetting to watch as those cops seen violating the law and the Constitutional rights of demonstrators are also part of the “99 Percent” themselves.
One of them — Officer Fred Shavies of the Oakland PD, who [...]

SANA, Yemen — The United States, which long supported Yemen’s president, even in the face of recent widespread protests, has now quietly shifted positions and has concluded that he is unlikely to bring about the required reforms and must be eased out of office, according to American and Yemeni officials.
The Obama administration had maintained its support of President Ali Abdullah Saleh in private and refrained from [...]
Tripoli, Libya (CNN) — A Libyan military jet bombed a base in eastern Libya on Monday, as embattled leader Moammar Gadhafi fought to hold onto his regime.
The base is about 90 miles south of Benghazi, a stronghold of government opponents. Some bases in the area have fallen into the hands of protesters as more members of the military have abandoned Gadhafi’s regime and joined [...]
