Japan Has Shown Us the Way To Our Own Monetary Disaster

by Phoenix Capital Research

Japan is the ultimate basket case for monetization. The country buys its own bonds, stocks, ETFs, foreign bonds, even REITs. All in all, the country has spent over 20% of its GDP in QE… and its economy continues to slow.

And yet, despite its complete, abject failure to produce any significant pick up in economy activity or employment via these policies, the Bank of Japan has decided to [...]

Inflation Alert! Oil price surge sets a new five-month high at $117 as Coutts warns of ‘potential for $140′

The price of oil soared to a five-month high today as traders welcomed a dramatic new plan in the U.S. to save the economy.

The Federal Reserve, America’s central bank, will pump a mammoth £25billion a month into markets by buying mortgage debt, and won’t stop until the policy shows signs of working.

The Fed also said it would hold interest rates close to zero ‘at least through mid-2015’ having previously said [...]

Half of East Coast’s oil refining capacity set to disappear

From FT:

Sunoco petrol stations are a fixture of the US eastern seaboard, their blue-and-yellow awnings touting the brand’s status as official fuel of Nascar racing. But after July, none of the petrol they sell will actually be made by Sunoco.

The 126-year-old company’s decision to quit the refining business is the latest sign of the tumult in downstream fuel markets that is accompanying a global shift in oil use. As consumption flags [...]

FT: Obama’s tax hikes threaten new recession

From FT:

The recent payroll gains and the declining unemployment rate in the United States have raised hopes that the economy will now start growing faster than the tepid 1.7 per cent rate of last year. Optimists are expecting growth rates as high as three per cent for this year and next.

I hope they are correct. The recession that began in December 2007 was deep and painful and the recovery that began in [...]

IEA warns of falling spare oil production capacity

From FT:

World oil markets face a “bumpy ride” in the months ahead, amid falling global crude supplies and tightening western inventories, the International Energy Agency said.

In its closely watched monthly oil market report, the IEA said that a series of unscheduled supply outages from Syria to the UK had reached 750,000 barrels a day.

The outages, combined with concerns about Iran, have helped to push crude prices up 20 per cent [...]

UK diesel hits new record high at an average of 143.05p ($2.29) per litre:

The price of diesel has hit a new high, at 143.05 pence a litre, figures have suggested.

The Retail Motor Industry (RMI) says the figures, from the analysts Experian Catalist, are a “disaster for motorists”.

RMI Petrol Chairman Brian Madderson said it put the livelihoods of hundreds of fuel retailers at risk.

The previous high was 143.04p, in May 2011, at the height of the “Arab spring”.

Motoring organisation the AA said the [...]

Speculation Oil Could Smash All Previous Records

With the price of gasoline at the pump in the UK, which also levies a large amount of tax, which the government has recently yet again increased as part of its austerity measures, rising above £2 ($3.20) a litre, or £9.10 ($14.56) a gallon:

Soaring petrol prices could reach £2 a litre if the situation in Libya and other oil-producing nations in the region worsens, the [...]

There are things more important to most of the world’s population than the index level on world stock markets

by LFM

the rocketing price of food and fuel is hitting the poorest hardest and causing rioting and unrest. In UK we have the highest gasoline at the pump prices on record and that’s well exceeding the price when oil reached its previous spike in 2008, also pushed higher by UK government policy of increasing taxes to help sustain its quantitative easing money given to banksters and to even try to [...]
